Anybody going to Venice Carnaval this year?

Venice, Italy

Cannot find any good fares from YUL-VCE unfortunately. Or else I would surely go.

Why don't you look MXP? Then you can take the train to Venice?? http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

When we lived in Vicenza we often flew into Munich. The train ride is not much longer than Milano.

Instead I will be flying YUL-FCO, then take an overnight train to VCE. Hotels in FCO are far cheaper than those in MXP because the latter city has some exhibition going on then.

Thing is, are there overnight trains from FCO-VCE? This way I will save on 2 nights' accommodation as well.

Thanks,
Maple

So, when you will be in Venezia, maple, and when you will leave??

I will be there between 24-26 Feb 2001 and I will use MXP or BLQ.

I will be flying to MXP afterall, because I had problems getting 2 tickets to FCO on AA.com.

I will arrive in MXP on 21 Feb, and leave on 27 Feb. As to when I will actually be in VCE, it really depends on how the accommodation scene looks like then. My casual plan is to take an overnight train MXP-VCE, arriving in VCE before dawn to enjoy the cobblestone streets in Venice at the best time of the day (wonder if there will actually be ferry rides from mainland so early). Anyway, this saves me 2 nights' accommodation in MXP, which is very exhorbitant.

Do you know of supercheap hotels in Milan? The other thead talking about Milan hotels have come up with nightly rates over $200, which is high in my opinion. Cheap nights are rather unlikely, because I was told that for the period during which I will be there, the city's hosting some big carnival of some sort. Prices rocket then. I may be forced to overnight in nearby cities like Verona, Piacenza etc (I don't really know Lombardia that well).

I will want to drop by at Como as well. It's such a nice break to my bitter winter here in YUL.

Drop me an email when you are in Italy, so that perhaps we could meet up sometime over pasta and gelato! Send emails to my web-accessible yahoo account only.

Arrivederci!
Maple

As I will be staying in a friend's home, I don't have any accomodation problem. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Did you try this page? If you are not too choosy, it shows vacancies during Carnaval period both in Milan and Venice in various hotels. http://www.itwg.com/hotels.asp

An option is to stay in Padua. We prefer many of the hotels and places to eat, not to mention revisiting Giotto http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Finding a hotel now in Venice appears to be a very daunting and herculean task. As a last resort, I shall have to stay overnight on the mainland, near the train station.

Is Padua exciting in any way?
Something special there?

Thanks.

Here's a site with a quick overview. http://web.tin.it/veneto/info/index.htm
Beaware that usually the Basilica of St. Anthony is simply referred to as Il Santo (the Saint). Wednesday was the open air market day. Alot of fun.
