FTers of Japan Unite! ...please?
I have received a couple of e-mails lately from people in the Tokyo area, and would be willing to organize a Japanese network if others are interested. I was surprised to hear that one person lives a 10-15 min bike ride from my house! -Not many miles to be had there, but a meeting is in order! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif
Assuming no such database already exists (if it does, let me know - and put me on it!), FTers in Japan interested in knowing about others are welcome to e-mail me [email protected] and/or post their info here. (If you need a Japanese-compatible address, attach it as a Word file or contact me to get my work address.) Let me also know if you would prefer that information remain private, or if the others in our budding network can be told about you! <Rest assured that I have no intention of misusing your info - Just trying to see who all we've got over here!> Maybe hockeynuts will take charge of the Kansai Kontingent http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif (?) Yoroshiku ze! Mark Home: Kakinokizaka (South of Shibuya, Tokyo.) Work: Shinjuku (Importing/Marketing) Fly: AA Plat (Gold in March http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif ) UA Exec Premier (Comped thru 2/02 http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif ) JAL/ANA locally when necessary. |
Mark,
I have sent a note to the Yahoo address and would like to add my voice here to the call to rally the local FTers. Lets have dinner and/or drinks soon you crazy guys and gals. Looking forward to meeting a FTer face to face. Mike |
I see this as a stepping stone to a Japan Flyertalk gathering? http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif
|
Kids,
I am not the familiar with FTers last year so I missed all my chances connect NRT (4 times this year). I will not go back home until Summer this coming year so hope that I will have a chance to meet you and fellow NRT FTers later http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif (BTW, I like NRT airport since I can buy a lots of Japanese sweet snacks ("grass" favor with red bean paste inside) when I connecting) |
Thanks for the mail and quick responses! Looking forward to more!

Well, it looks like we have at least two people flying in for 12/1, with one planning to come in to Tokyo "proper" for the day 12/2.
Details for a meeting will be forthcoming if interested, mjm and others! btw: I and my closest FT neighbor might be getting together for dinner later this week. Any other locals in the Meguro/Setagaya area that want to join in (Wed or Thursday) let me know! -KP |
Yo' Kid,
I am up for the 12/2 festivities for sure. Are we going to be able to swing getting AusTXHiker into town for the Saturday night dinner also? I hope so. Either way lets do some planning offline via e-mail so we can have this shindig organized seamlessly for our out of towners. I have a couple ideas and will forward the details via e-mail. As to later this week if you e-mail with details I will try to arrange to join in if it is still okay. Looking forward to seeing the already scheduled FT visitors and any others of you that want to drop in and say Konnichiwa. Mike |

Mike Thank you, gentlemen...you are very kind to look out for us and to arrange a get-together for Saturday night dinner. Looking forward to meeting you, AusTXHiker and others too! Bill |
Won't be able to make your party, though I will be in Osaka the week of Nov. 13, then off to Thailand... no, I'm not doing the Baht run, just a vacation after a 50K+ summer. Are there any KIX folks on the board to hang out with while I'm in town?
|
I guess this would be the first official Japanese FT gathering! I'm looking forward to it. So far, we have kidpachinko, mjm, bbinchi, and of course, me.
I'm hoping to meet up with SIN_Flyer on the way up to NRT since I am also traveling to SIN. Barring any last-minute surprises or changes, I should have Freddie, Jr. in tow when I make it to SIN and NRT. |
zipper: hockeynuts is the Krazy Kansai guy around these parts. - I think his e-mail is in his profile.
AusTX: It is looking like mjm's only going to be active for the Saturday leg, which I understand you'll be missing because that is when you are flying out. -I hope I've got that wrong, but I'm right in thinking you are "continuing on" after a Saturday checkout, right? -KP |
So far just a few Tokyo folks, and no word from hockeynuts or other Kansai-ers. Anyone else out there?
-KP |
Pachinko-san Konbanwa,
Include me in your datebase. I'd love to have some help in getting the better deals out of Japan. Flys: UA1K for the past few years Home: LA Originally from: Kobe Other home: Ashiya Work:Interpreter The flights I miss:TG's midnight LAXKIX, UA LAXKIX Anybodyelse out there who misses these flights? I will be on UA897/15Nov and conx to Itami. Will be in Yokohama 11/19-22 then back to Kobe for a few days. Not sure where or when I'll fly home from yet. |
Gone Again: A hearty "Youkoso" to the board, and "maido!" to a new Kansai friend. hockenuts is our local "Kansai Rep," in case you haven't run across him yet.
I live between Yokohama and Shibuya, so feel to give me a ring on my keitai next time you come thru! I'm interested in translating, and could try to arrange a get-together next week (although that is a tight time window, and you probably have a full schedule!). You know the first three digits to keitais, and I'm at 8343-8462. -Mark |
Mark,
Very light schedule on this Yokohama assignment. Call you when I get in. |
Hey, All,
Sorry we couldn't hook up with you this time, Gone Again, but Mrs. Kid and I enjoyed meeting our FT neighbor (finally). Surprised to meet a flyer who doesn't like to fly! Looking forward to next week's NRT get together. -mjm: Gimme a ring so's we can figure out the Saturday plan. Anyone hoping to sneaking a peek at Freddie Jr., Nikko's Narita Winds on 12/1 is the place to be! -KP [This message has been edited by kidpachinko (edited 11-23-2000).] |
Sorry for the self-promotion of fwd'ing my own thread, but wanted to thank AusTXHiker and bbinchi for flying over/out to NRT this weekend. Was great to meet local mjm (finally) as well, and hopefully Ruth, mjm & the Kids can get together in the new year.
AusTX- A truly commendable effort to give Freddie Jr. the quick tour of one small part of this huge city. -A 2 hour commute each way for 3 hours of schleppin' around. Hope it was worth it! And finally, there is still a bit of open memory in my computer, so feel free to e-mail me your info if you want to be included in my list of "locals." -KidHost (thanks again to mjm - I will let you know how the NC20 headphones work this month. $90 seems a bargain based on my home testing - maybe I should export these!) |
"KidHost":
I'm embarrassed that you beat me to the punch, as I should have been the one to forward this thread with my heartfelt thanks to you and "Mrs. Kid" for the wonderful job of hosting this weekend. Unfortunately, the NRT Admirals Club did not offer PCs so I could not get on the Internet until now (got home about 90 minutes ago). Let me publicly thank you and "Mrs. Kid", and "mjm", for a wonderful time in Tokyo. I am truly touched by your gracious hospitality and the many kindnesses shown during my brief visit. I had a great time and so enjoyed our excellent sushi lunch and, later, our dinner. The sightseeing, the logistics planning, the translating...you really went over and above what anyone should expect from someone they have never met. But I guess that's what the FlyerTalk community spirit is all about! Thanks go to "AusTXHiker" as well for allowing me to tag along and be a part of his Friday night that had already been arranged with "the Kids." And it was great to meet Freddie Jr. as well! I am eager to return the favor with each of you someday here in Chicago, so let me know when you can visit. As for the Sony NC-20s...very impressive. They don't seal off the ears as well as the Bose noise canceling headphones offered in AA's Business Class, but the NC-20s seem to reproduce a broader spectrum of the music without the bass frequencies being diminished and with no loss of musical fidelity as seemed to be the case with the Bose. Definitely worth it (especially at that price!)...many thanks to you, "mjm", for encouraging me to try them. Bye for now; my bed is calling me... Bill |
I will be returning to England to study (YUK!) and I have an overnight transit in NRT on 6JAN.
I was wondering if anyone from Tokyo will be around then, to meet and (maybe) show me around (if you have time). It'll be my first time alone in Tokyo, free to do whatever I want (until about 8pm when I will return to the hotel near Narita). So... anyone? |
stargold,
Sorry, but I've gotta work 1/6. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif Hope you get a guide, but unless you are AusTXHiker, it is difficult to get into the city for just a few hours. Good luck! -A happy KP, as an ORD-NRT upgrade is looking to work out. (Knock on fake AA Club wood.) |
