Anyone going to be in RIO for NYE period?

What started out an an enquiry about hotel rates in Rio De Janiero for NYE has turned into a small FT meeting of myself, RedRobin, Carioca Canuck and partners etc. See:

If anyone else is planning to be down there around this time, please let's know and we can set up a dinner at a churrascaria (Brasilian for all you can eat BBQ beef restaurant) that the other 2 RIO experts recommend.

I have a detailed fax of prices and deals for a few dozen hotels on the Copacobana Beach for the period, from moderate price to REAL expensive, with a web link for location map and reviews of Hotels etc, so if anyone wishes I'll email it. They can be booked immediately. Airlines like DL seem to have ticket sales on for RIO in this period.

I understand about 1-2 million people gather on the beach of Copacabana for midnight, and as this will usher in the "true" millennium, it should be a real fun night! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif
