Farewell

Adios, Sayonara, Adieu, Auf wiedensehen, Shalom, Caio, and sadly, good-bye.

(For those of you whose language is not represented, my apologies) http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

I posted yesterday on another forum that I feel like I'm in a time warp and have traveled back to high school. I realize on contemplation that this perception is based not only on how other people are behaving, but more recently on how I'm behaving.

I came to FT as a professional adult with the objectives of determining how I could gain any benefit and maximize my experience in the 125k/yr miles I have to fly for business. I have realized that objective in spades! And I thank you all for that.

I have also benefited personally from the many wonderful people I've met here. As many of you know, traveling a lot takes its toll on being able to maintain personal relationships. I've had a real sense of community with many of you, and I've been grateful for it in lonely hotel rooms.

But the time has come for me to put this space in its proper perspective and that's in the background of my life, not the foreground. Getting involved in negative personal issues with people I've never even met is a misplaced and warped sense of involvement. It's a seductive trap, and I believe my spirit is best served by not participating.

I need to focus on growing my company and the relationships that feed my soul: my family and dear friends who are the real support structure of my life. AND, I need to be in a consistently positive mental and emotional space to do these things well.

So I'm removing myself to the background as an occasional "lurker". You'll always be a great resource for information, and I'll always enjoy the trip reports - except for Gaucho's - they cause me to struggle with several of the deadly sins - Envy, Avarice, and Gluttony http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

Again, it's been a pleasure. I wish you all the best http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

welcome lurker svpii http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Catman Nov 7, 2000 12:12 pm

Well Svpii, I'm am sorry that you have to say so long, but I respect your decision.

This is just a suggestion, but maybe step away from F-T, enjoy your family and freinds and if you decide to come back then DIGRESS FROM ALL THE NEGATIVITY!!! It took many Flyertalkers here to make me realize that: Ignore the nonsense and let those who wish to fight, fight it out themselves.

Remember the Elton John song, "Friends Never Say Goodbye."

I hope to see you back, even as Lurker svpii.

BB, you beat me to it...

I was getting ready to type as I got to the bottom...and there it was already. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

Jailer Nov 7, 2000 2:08 pm

Well, this is pretty sad. Svpii you are one of my prime examples about what is so right about FT. What other Board can you meet someone online and have a cordial, informative and fun breakfast with him or her without any worry or concerns? Pam, I know Jailer (if I may refer to myself in third person) is thick-skinned, but IMHO breakfast with you is balm for a hundred negative, back-biting, high-schoolish remarks made by shallow people. Don’t go away for too long.

I agree with Jailer, you will be missed svpii. Thanks for your informative US posts as well as the time spent chatting.

So sad to see another flier, especially USAirways flier go... good luck as a United 1K http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Why don't you just laugh ... at it and about. The internet is - thank God - a microcosmos of the real world nothing more or less .....

There will always be adults behaving like kids - on the net and in real life.

There is no way just to ... quit. So, when you say you'd "remove yourself and be an occasional lurker" you also say, that you're still interested.

Well then ... why not stand it, ignore it ..... and laugh ?! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

High school wasn't that bad! (Although I do sometimes wish I can got through it again and make everything all right.)

In anycase, I respect any decision you make but would certainly miss you as an active participant. Are you swearing off Chat too?

Thanks for your nice comments/reviews on my trip reports. Good luck with your company, and have fun lurking... http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif

spvii, sorry you have to go. I respect your decision and know that folks stay or leave here for various reasons.

Thanks for all your input and advice here on FlyerTalk. You were a valuable asset to the community and will be missed.

Maybe there's still a chance we'll meet in person someday at a FlyerTalk event? Lurkers are welcomed, you know!

1. spvii, I understand your decision! This gets me thinking...

2. Catman, great point. That's all there is to it -- ignore the negative.

3. Rudi -- I love your comment, talk about the positive!!

4. I love FT. Only about .01% of the time does some comment depress me but I don't let it go for long.

5. I never respond to flaming

6. I am on occasion negative here on FT (like sometimes about UA) but that is because I am by nature a positive person and I feel that I can be honest here on FT -- and life is not always positive, is it?

Sorry to see that you are joining the lurker status svpii http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif

I still remember (what I believe was your first time in FT Chat) your offer to help me with that travesty confronted by many of the male gender, buying furniture. Always good to have help from North Carolina, center of the furniture universe. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif

Hopefully you will come back later. C-Ya again soon.

I, too, am saddened to see a loss...

of our resident hottie! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/eek.gif
(she will know what I'm talking about...)

It's never too late to be a hottie!

Hope to see you around svpii!
