Which FTer won/lost?

In such a diverse group, I thought it might be interesting to start a thread idnetifying victories and losses by Fters in local/statewide elections last night. So the question is: Who won/lost elective office and by how much (if you care to disclose it). It is not necessary to identify your party affiliation.

I am/was a looser 100% - they (...) didn't even let me vote who (politically/and military wise) will be the strongest man in (my = ) the whole world!

Dub Nov 8, 2000 9:43 am

Hi Rudi. I live in Massachusetts. I may as well live in Switzerland as far as national US elections go. The election was finished here once the primaries were settled. I didn't see one single Presidential add on TV. Why waste the money? Talk about a single party state! The big issue here was whether to ban dog racing!

Dub:
I don't know about that. The ballot initiatives for a tax cut and socialized medicine were pretty popular too.

Yeah, I know, I was just ranting. 1200 votes in FL will decide this, while in MA, your vote just does not count. I'm going to blow my tax cut at the track, though. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

I lost. I voted for Yaz and Eddie. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Dub & Jon...I saw some interesting ads and interviews about the dog racing issue last week when I was in MA.

So, what happened? Did it pass?

ROADRUNNER Nov 8, 2000 2:23 pm

I am going to Las Vegas to cool down. I would rather the mob get my money, then the government.

Milton Friedman at Harvard, says the voters voted for 'creeping socialism' not for the Dems or Repubs, who just determine the speed toward that end in slow or fast speed!

These manipulative parties might have paved the road further for a third party, the next time around.

CameraGuy Nov 8, 2000 2:37 pm

If Pinochio prevails on the recount in FL, then I batted 0.000 in picking candidates. I was however, 6 for 8 on the ballot questions.

Shadow,

No it did not pass. The Pro 3 ads were extremely deceptive. In fact, the owner of one of the dog tracks is suing the makers of the ads for defamation of character.

To give you an idea of how deceptive their ads were, The Boston Globe (Which is slightly more liberal than the NY Post) came out against the ads.

CameraGuy:
And it should probably come as no surprise that the two Casinos in CT were exercising their rights to "free speech" in contributing to the folks in favor of banning dog racing.

Frankly, I'm still shocked people voted to lower taxes! This is still Massachusetts, right?

Jon,

Question 3 was funded almost in it's entirety with out of state monies. I'm glad that it did not pass.

As far as the tax cut. I stopped trying to figure out the MA voter ages ago. Look at the Senate Race between Kerry and Weld a few years back. Voters actually voted for Kerry for the sole reason that they liked Bill Weld too much to lose him as our Governor. That theory worked real well!

I guess I can't say if I won or lost. As is not unusual, I vote one way, my wife votes the other... so we cancel each other out.

If we both vote the same way for anything, it tends to get defeated! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

I think that was the interview I saw...the guy was really steamed and upset, even with the news reporter.

Is Uncle Miltie back at Harvard? I thought we'd kicked his sorry butt 867 miles west twenty or thirty years hence.

Cheers

The question of this topic was were we up for election Tuesday. I had a referendum put on the ballot in my town to stop the mosquito abatement program. In my opinion, it was a waste of money (we are surrounded by forest preserves.) My side won 3993 to 1275.
