Who We All Are - The Complete File
Ever wonder if a particular FTer has bosted a bio on WWAA? Ever felt the need to read hundreds of text pages about your fellow FT obsessors? Have you been frustrated at not knowing in which of the WWAA threads you should look? Your solution is at hand.
I’ve copied all the pages from the WWAA 1 --> WWAA 7 threads into a text file which allows you to search for a particular username and see if he/she has posted their bio. If anyone is interested in a free copy, just drop me an email . The combined file size is roughly 550K. But I can also send it in pieces, e.g. WWAA 1, WWAA 2, etc. (Warning – due to the cut-n-paste nature of compiling the file, it won’t contain smilely’s or any similar icons. Also, the file includes all the non-bio related chatter included in the threads. No text has been edited out.) And if you order now, as a special bonus, we will include a file with all the posts of the College and Name threads started by BostonBoy. Call now – operators are standing by… http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif [This message has been edited by bokich (edited 07-26-2000).] |
I looked the other day for a specific bio...by doing a 'search'...worked out perfect.
Don't mean anything negative...but I am missing the advantage of copying it all and then searching? Dorian (the guy with no bio) |
You're a genius! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif Thanks http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

You're right of course. It's possible to use search. I was gonna address that above, and forgot. The advantage is having everything together in one spot.
Some of the WWAA threads are in FT Community, others in Buzz. Searching for posts by some of the more prolific posters might not even turn up their contributions to the WWAA threads (since search maxes out at 200 results). Even if you know which WWAA thread you want, this saves having to look through the various pages of the thread. Using the file avoids having to make sure you're accurately targeting your search (particularly for a newbie who might not be aware of all the nuances of the threads, or the search function); everything is in the same place. Yes, this isn't an earthshattering achievement; just a "nice to have" that I've found useful and thought I'd offer up to the community, if anyone else wants it. No offense taken. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif Oh yeah, one other reason - whereby I may be the only one that thinks this way. I like to store "reference" materials like this sort of file, or my list of all Airport Codes worldwide (useful for translating all of our jargon on FT) locally on my harddrive. Yes I know the information is available online at a website somewhere, or via FT search, but for me at least, it's quicker and easier to just pop open a file in Word and search. But more importantly Ben, you just love doing this stuff... http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

You may have a point, shadow…it must be the ex-accountant’s love of bringing order out of chaos… http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif
In any case, a handful of people took me up on my offer.... |
Thanks bokich for the file. I have now edited it down (without many comment posts) to the basic WWAA posts in both Word 97 and Access 97 (if you like to do more complex sorts). Go to my download page and follow instructions.

Good thing we didn't delegate this to Vulcan! I think he is still trying to compile the wine tasting results from FAQ!

Very nice work BlondeBomber!
I thought of editing it down further, but it was enuf work just compiling the file. I'm glad someone else took the effort. |
thank you very much bokich and BlondeBomber
I did download it now. I am glad it didn't exist when the contest 'Know who we all are' was running. I would have run out of prizes then http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif |
Rudi - that contest was what originally got me thinking about this idea.... http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

I never would have done it if you hadn't compiled the initial file bokich!
That's what I like about this board. When it's working well, it REALLY works. Great synergies, lots of information http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif |
Thanks bokich for compiling this. Great idea!
And thanks to you, too, BB for puting it on your webpage. Just downloaded the Word version. |
BlondeBomber, it's a perfect TalkMail tidbit too. If there aren't any objections, the link will go in the first (next) TalkMail issue.
