The Newbs
Hi! I'm one of 'the newbs' joining after reading the hilarious article in TIME Magazine. I do not particularly like the way I found this place, too...public, too.. ununique. To tell the truth, I dun like a mass invasion of newbs in my other communities at all. Well, whateverz, I'm gonna join anyway, coz I'm really excited about this traveller's community.
So, Hi! Everyone. I read a couple threads, and I find it kind of weird, all that 'get points by shopping online' congo lines, not really related to travelling or frequent flyer programs...Oh well. See you around! |
Oh, to contribute something before people start yelling at the newbs for getting too much from this place. This is all that I know.
You get some 5000 miles for getting a UA milage plus credit card, and 2500 for the student one. Just cancel it afterwards, http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/tongue.gif. Sly.... http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif |
gruezi (= Hi in swiss german) Daf and welcome to your/our board.
Where (and what) was that article in the TIME magazine? |
It's the Pudding Guy article, 1 page
I think u might be able to read it in their site |
I too am one of the dreaded "newbies" who heard of this site via the Time magazine article. I am very excited by what I've seen thus far though, and hope to become a vaued, active member ASAP! I'll have to try that UA credit card that was mentioned previously.
I'm just starting to get the hang of all these opportunities for free flying, but am learning fast. Whenever I fly anymore, I always make sure I elect to be "bumped" for vouchers (just got a $600 one for being bumped by USAir in Rome), and have a free RT ticket waiting for me in my own zone from MBNA TravelMax at the moment. Presently, I use my CapitalOne Miles Plus Visa card for all purchases though. I believe the yearly fee is $20 or so, and I'm trying to get enough points to be able to travel to Australia within five years. So far, I'm right on track. Looking forward to "learning the ropes"! Thanks, Wayne |
Welcome Daf and wwheeler! Any other newbies care to register and introduce yourselves?
If you haven't heard, check out the current Kellogs/Healthy Choice cereal promotion (100 American miles per box). The world is waiting to meet Mueslix Man or Granola Gal! |

"We'd like to know a little bit about you for our files...."

"We'd like to help you learn to help yourselves..."

I'll claim the last word, since the next line fits so well:
"Look around you, all you see are sympathetic eyes." |

Newbie DAF, Don't settle for 5000 point from UAL for a credit card. They are offering a companion ticket. At least, for adults!! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif
