Dinner in NY on Monday the 7th of Feb

After the weekend down in Tampa I'll be doing some work at a customer site on Long Island and staying at the Huntington Hilton. I'm wondering if anyone is available for dinner or drinks on Monday night the 7th. I fly out of LGA to PIT for two days on the 8th and then back through LGA on the 10th (8:30p.m), and then home to SJC on the 11th. If someone is available just give me an address and a time, preferably after 6:30 and I'll be there. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Catman Feb 3, 2000 12:04 pm

Scott, where were you thinking of having dinner?

If it's Manhattan, I can manage. If It's Long Island it's impossible to get out there without spending 2 hrs commuting.

Let me know what your plans are. I might be able to do it.

BlondeBomber Feb 3, 2000 12:47 pm

I might be available if it is in Manhattan but won't know until sometime in the day on Monday (it wouldn't be until 7:30 anyway as we have a presentation from 6:15 until 7:00/7:30--but you guys could start without me). If a couple of you are going anyway, post the details here and I will try to make it, even if it is later. Catman knows where I am (Beekman) so can contact me there.

Scott the flier Feb 3, 2000 12:55 pm

Manhattan works for me, I don't mind the commute for an enjoyable dinner with some fellow mileage fanatics. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gifAnd if 7:30 works out better for BB then Catman you pick the place and I'll get there either by car or subway. Thanks guy's.

Cheers Scott

doc Feb 3, 2000 2:04 pm

Scott, from Huntington, you are looking at the "famed" LIRR into Manhattan (maybe ~1hr)- the subway goes out only into Queens! You can choose a place near Penn Station to save some time if you like. I'll probably not be able to come, but if I can I'll let you all know.

Catman Feb 3, 2000 3:30 pm

Scott, if you can come to NYC... then let's do that.

Where would you like to go??? I"m having a craving for Ruth's Chris. at 7:30 ish?

We can discuss it in Tampa!

Scott the flier Feb 3, 2000 3:44 pm

Ruth Cris'es sounds like a winner to me, say 7:30ish. BB are you good with that? I'll be seeing you Saturday Catman, keep the beer cold for me. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Cheers Scott

Catman Feb 4, 2000 6:44 am

Ok, Scott, I'll make reservations for four at Ruth's Chris for 7:30pm...

I can guess you and me will come, plus BB and maybe Boomer? Or anyone else interested.

WOW! Sizzling steaks!

BlondeBomber Feb 4, 2000 7:18 am

Thanks Catman. Looks like I may be heading home this weekend after all (but returning Monday).

Cliff

NJDavid Feb 4, 2000 8:10 am

Count me in........

Scott the flier Feb 4, 2000 12:48 pm

Sounds good to me, the more the merrier. See you this weekend and Monday. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Cheers Scott

RichG Feb 4, 2000 6:15 pm

Not quite sure how this happened, but Monday is wide open. Please count me in! (An apologies to BlondeBomber, whom I missed this week.)

BlondeBomber Feb 5, 2000 11:08 am

No apologies necessary--will be good to see everyone Monday night.

See you at Ruth Chris Steak House at 148 W 51st St. (is that one or two blocks west of Park Ave--still trying to understand New York numbering?)

NJDavid Feb 5, 2000 11:34 am

Who's making the reservations?

RichG Feb 5, 2000 11:47 am

BB: NYC addresses follow a simple, fixed, pattern, except for the exceptions http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif (sort of like French). The East/West dividing line is 5th Avenue, and 148 W. 51st St. should be between 6th and 7th Avenues. (Also, since there are no addresses in Central Park, the "West" addresses between 59th and 110th Streets start from Central Park West. I could go on, and on, and on, and on....

BlondeBomber Feb 5, 2000 12:26 pm

I am presuming that Catman has done so already NJD.

Thanks for directions RichG!

See you all there!

Scott the flier Feb 6, 2000 9:24 am

Looks like we'll have a good turnout after all. I look forward to meeting everyone. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif Does the restaurant have valet parking as I'll probably drive in and stay the night at the Millenium Hilton instead of Long Island. What would the traffic be like at 6:30a.m out to Plainview on Tuesday morning ? Catman was making the reservations but I think only for four, maybe someone could call and make it for 6-8 instead. I'm sure the res is in Mark Blanchards name. I'll check later tonight when I get into Pearl River for the night.

Cheers Scott

SD Flyer Feb 6, 2000 9:31 am

I would love to join everyone if there is still space!

Catman, I've sent you mail.

RichG Feb 6, 2000 1:24 pm

Scott the flier: It's unlikely that they have valet parking... best I would expect would be a deal with a local garage or lot that knocks the rate down from ridiculous to very expensive. Remember that a minority of midtown restaurant patrons arrive by car.

If you're determined to drive into Manhattan for this dinner, I'd recommend going to the hotel first (if you have the time), putting the car in whatever parking they have there, and taking a taxi or the #1 or #9 train uptown to 50th St., and then walking to Ruth's.

BlondeBomber Feb 6, 2000 1:48 pm

Thanks for phoning to increase the number of people for the reservation Scott as Catman is down in Tampa right?

BlondeBomber Feb 6, 2000 1:52 pm

Catman will be arriving about 5:30 PM so you can confirm with him Scott.

Catman Feb 6, 2000 5:30 pm

OK, I called Ruth's Chris and expanded the reservation to EIGHT PEOPLE!!!

TIME: 7:45 pm!!!

I called Ruth's and they only had FOUR DOWN!

We have (so far http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Catman
BlondeBomber
Boomer
NJDavid
Scott the Flyer
Rich G
SD Flyer

So there is ONE more space. (B-B: It is probably the affects of Bern's on my counting ability!)

If I forget anyone please let me know. Ruth's has been accomodating to me.

BlondeBomber Feb 6, 2000 6:24 pm

Er, effects of Bern's party/alcohol still working on you Catman http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif . . . only one more spot by my count (but I'm sure we can expand the table) unless one of us is a ghost!

NJDavid Feb 7, 2000 7:31 am

Of course, you realize we're giving-up the Mary-Rhoda reunion for this...

Catman Feb 7, 2000 11:21 am

I realize you all are giving up the Mary-Rhoda reunion but I assume you all have VCR.

And besides, you have live company, laughs, fun, excitement, steak and... me (the cat who made it after all! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Just in advance: Thank you for taking the time out of yoru busy lives and leaving Mary & Rhoda for me!!!!

Catman Feb 7, 2000 10:15 pm

It was another ppurrffeecct dinner full of fun and travel talk and laughs and good friends and steak and wine and Sam Adams.

It was terrific NYC FLyer (former SD Flyer) and I want to congratulate you and wish you well on all the wonderful things happening into your life in the next few weeks.

Boomer: so disappointed you did not show. I assumed you confirmed. You were missed.

Well with NYC Flyer, RichG, the great Blonde Bomber, my brother NJDavid and our fine host Scott the Flyer we made a great impression at Ruth's Chris. I won't go into how wondreful this restaurant is. The manager gave me a tour and did the push to be the official Cat-Man-Do 2 restaurant. (As I said the final choice will be announced February 14th)

So thanks guys for another wonderful evening.
A flyertalk get together can make me deal with the mundane existance of work, commuting, my city, my neighbors and other things! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Punki Feb 7, 2000 10:31 pm

I don't know about you guys. Catman, you and Scott are turning into serious party animals. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/eek.gif

Party hearty Marty (or Scott or Mark)!

A good time is always guaranteed for all. I made a faux pas thinking that SDFlyer was South Dakota Flyer http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/eek.gif Oh well now that he is in NY it solves my problem--good luck on your studies!

Catman Feb 8, 2000 10:26 am

I like being a party cat! I"m making up for all those nights at home in high school with only my text books and Entenmann's for company.

COllege was better but I had to work full time to stay in class.

SO I finally have a social life thanks to you Flyertalkers.

MEOW ON! (I will not say that other praise from that movie with Dana Carvey or whoever.)

Scott the flier Feb 8, 2000 5:51 pm

Well everyone, thanks for having me in that wonderful town NY. I had a great time and made it back to the Hotel in one piece. I'm writing this while waiting for my connection to PIT in the RCC at IAD in my BVD's, oops scratch that last one. I look forward to meeting everyone again soon, and well like Wayne and Garth say " Party on ". http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Cheers Scott
