NYC Jun 13-15: Anyone?

I'll be in NYC visiting a corporate travel medicine service and if any of you NY/NJ folks would like to grab a drink or a bit to eat let me know....

NJDavid May 20, 1999 1:40 pm

I'll just be getting back from MCO...Sure, I'm around....

The 14th would be the only time I could be free.

I have ticket to "Phantom of the Opera" on the 15th. And the 13th I'm just coming back from South Padre Island, Texas.

So if the 14th's ok with you guys (I know it's MONDAY, BLEH!!!) Let me know!!

Boomer May 20, 1999 7:14 pm

Count me in for any of those nights.

burkey May 20, 1999 8:35 pm

Well, lets figure on the 14th, even though it's a Monday.... I was planning on leaving by the late afternoon on the 15th anyway. I'm up for where ever... I'll be staying at the Reniassence and also be visiting a bank in the Citi. Suggestions for a venue?

Catman's Ghost May 23, 1999 4:34 pm

Being the easy going guy I am, I will be up for anything!!!

Steak: No I'm not going to suggest Ruth'S Chris, but how about Smith & Wollensky?

Boomer introduced Dave & I to Tennessee Mountain which is near World Trade Center if you guys are up for ribs.

I just say Whatever you decide, I will be there in my NEW CAT TIE!!

Boomer May 24, 1999 4:09 pm

If you want steak, I'd suggest Sparks or Peter Lugers, imho better than S&W.

Of course we did talk about chinatown last time as a possible venue.

Catman May 24, 1999 4:20 pm

Chinatown might be fun. I have not been there in a few years.

As I said, I am the easiest dinner guest: majority picks the place, I show up happily.

Except don't pick Sushi. I cannot eat raw fishes. Only Pepperidge Farms Goldfishes!

NJDavid May 24, 1999 6:33 pm

Chinatown! Dim Sum. 40 Mott Street. I can't wait.

burkey May 24, 1999 6:51 pm

It doesn't really matter to me-- if you guys want Chinatown, then Chinatown it is!! What time is good for you all? I plan on being finished for the day by 4-5 at the latest...

Catman May 26, 1999 4:06 pm

It's looks like Chinatown it is.

Whatever time is good for you guys, just give me location and time.

All I ask is that it's a little late in the afternoon so I can earn some serious Frequent Sleeping miles and double SNORING points!

burkey May 28, 1999 5:02 pm

I'm not familiar with anything in Chinatown.. only been to NY a few times, so what ever place you all want and times that work best for you all....

NJDavid Jun 8, 1999 4:11 am

Confirmation E-mails to me please......If we're all still on.....

burkey Jun 8, 1999 4:47 am

I've emailed you all....

dgolds Jun 8, 1999 11:04 pm

Looks like I'm unexpectedly going to be in White Plains that week. No itinerary yet, but I think I'll be around on the 14th.

Could you please e-mail me too?

Thanks!

For anyone that's interested, we're going to be meeting at Dim Sum, 40 Mott Street, around 6 PM. Everyone's welcome to come!!

dgold -- you're email isn't in your profile to email you with the details that I posted here...

burkey: Sorry about the oversight. It's there now.

doc Jun 11, 1999 10:10 am

Just out of curiousity, is there a 40 Mott Street as well as the 20 Mott Street that I seem to recall? Same place or what? By the way, there's a place called Triple Eight literally under the Bridge, which is similar to Mott (good, not fancy and cheap), and also pretty good for dimsum!

Catman Jun 11, 1999 10:40 am

Doc... are you going to be in the NYC area that night? You could join us... love to meet another relatively new member of F-T.

Burkey: If I am late that means the PATH Trains broke down or the cats forgot to wake me up from my catnap (I work 2-11a and need to nap so I'm coherent for our latest F-T get together)

See Y'all MONDAY! (Hopefully recovered from San Antonine!)

Haven't been there in several years, but I still have a card for SUN HOP SHING TEA HOUSE at 21 Mott St, which had great dim sum.

As long as you folks are on a dim sum tear, I'd appreciate a suggestion for 4**** dim sum in SFO, a place in Chinatown and also on Clement St. I promise to try 1 or 2 and report back.

Here are some other dim sum places I've enjoyed and rate 3*** and 4****:
CHICAGO-3 Happiness, Chinatown @ Cermak & Wentworth

BOSTON-Imperial Seafood Restaurant @ 70 Beach St

LONDON- Chuen Cheng Ku Restaurant, locations @20 Rupert St and 17 Wardour Sts, at Leicester Square and Picadilly Circus.

We're talking served dim sum, London style, served from "trolleys". Thanks.

I honestly get confused between 20 Mott and 40 Mott. One is a restaurant with big, ugly fish tanks in the front windows, the other isn't.

Lets meet in front of the fish tanks.

burkey Jun 11, 1999 9:46 pm

Ok -- see you all by the big, ugly fish tanks http://talk.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

knowitall: Here are a couple of suggestions for dim sum in San Francisco:

Richmond district:

Ton Kiang on Geary in the 20's.
Hong Kong Flower Lounge, also on Geary in the 20's.

Downtown:

Yank Sing, 2 locations - 1 south of Market on Stevenson, the other close to Chintown on Battery.
Harbor Village - in 1 Embarcadero Center next to the Hyatt Regency.

All four are excellent, with Ton Kiang being my personal favorite. The quality and freshness of the dim sum there is exquisite.

My ethnic Asian friends tell me Yank Sing is a bit Americanized, but I quite like it. Harbor Village is a beautiful restaurant, and some seats have Bay views.

Both Yank Sing and Harbor Village have carry outs that serve the Financial District lunch crowd. Avoid them - the quality of their dim sum is nothing like what you will get at the sit down restaurants.

Expect waits at the downtown places during the week and at Harbor Village or the Richmond places during the weekends.

Hi, everyone,

I sent burkey an e-mail but haven't heard back...I will probably be unable to make it at 6 PM due to the fact that I am working up in Purchase and not sure when my day will end Monday. I won't know until Monday afternoon if I can join you.

A couple of questions -

(1) What is a reasonably quick way to get to Chinatown from Purchase, and how long does it take. I will have a rental car, but suspect the train would be quicker.

(2) How late do you think you all will be at Dim Sum, so that if I could make it in by, say, 7 or 7:30, might I still be able to join you?

NJDavid Jun 12, 1999 10:54 pm

We'll be there for at least an hour or so...then (if the weather is ok) maybe a short walk to Little Italy for coffee and pastries. E-mail me and I'll give you cell numbers for us...

burkey Jun 13, 1999 7:41 am

dgolds -- sorry, but I don't think I received any email, unless I deleted it by mistake, sorry again. Like NJDavid said, we'll probably be there for at least an hour, then do whatever... so if you can make it later, you can see where we are if you get his cell number.

doc Jun 16, 1999 1:04 pm

Catman- Sorry for the late response due to preoccupation with other matters. In Hanover, NJ with committments till about 9:30pm on 6/15. In Manhattan on the West Side till about 9:00pm 6/16. Maybe next time!
