Wine Geeks (Dan, DL etc.) make a list, a two column list in excel with one column being varietals. Excel will even assign numbers for you.

Buy a spot at the Do, get a number. That is the wine you must bring.

Better than a random system by a wide margin. You get wine that actually works with food which is after all why it exists.

This is an interesting idea, and one I'd like to explore more. I think the 30% Champagne is a little on the high side, based on this year; where I think 20% is more likely. I think we have some time to work out the details. ;)

If I read the thread correctly, the inventory is four bubbles. All bubbles that I am aware of are at least 10 years old, and all bubbles are from champagne (there is one exception). There should be something for everyone- at least 10 years, at least 20, at least rose, at least... :cool:

So I will be bringing a 2001 Kilikanoon Oracle Shiraz from the Clare Valley.

A friend of mine posted a note on this wine on Cellartracker.

Decanted 1 hour. Pretty big, pretty fruity and pretty good. Beautiful aromas of both red and black fruits. Great mouthfeel with completely resolved tannins. Fruit is starting to mature and not a lot of nuance, not sure if it will ever come with this wine. But very, very good now if your in the mood for a larger scaled wine. Paired great with sous vide New Yorkers. Last bottle and glad I cellared.

The Nigl isn't a dessert wine--let's move it up top after the champagnes. We may also want to check the Steinmetz after opening to see how it's going, may not be a dessert wine at this point. Besides, itsaboutthejourney's wine will be lonely.

The Nigl gets good reviews on Cellartracker. Updated.
