In my experience that is a very common stipulation at hotels in Utqiagvik. Remember, it is a "damp" town. No alcohol sales of any kind but you can bring a limited amount with you. Discretion and quiet are definitely required while in your rooms.

For ideas on what we might do and see in Barrow, Wikitravel and Wikivoyage have very slimiar, but slightly different information.

This sounds interesting...err...maybe odd?

Joe's Museum, +1 907 855 1007. By appt. Native art and taxidermy interspersed (very appealingly) with artifacts from the proprietor's bachelor-pad life in the ~1980s, and anything else you could think of.
Based on "artifacts from the proprietor's bachelor-pad life in the ~1980s" I can "think of" many things...lol

I was going to find out more detail closer in; once I had a better grasp on group size.

Based on discussions it sounded like per person, however I could be mistaken.

Was planning on figuring out a way for Point Barrow, hopefully with the tour.

Are we going to Alaska or Saudi Arabia?

Did everyone just totally abandon the Airport Inn?
If there are people still planning to stay there, I'd
just as soon not make the proprietors there bear
the brunt of our caprice. Unless of course I can be
assured they'll sell the space anyway.

Top of the world charges $155 per person so i doubt the quote was for the group

Solstice is a very busy time of the year. Considering how lax the cancel policy is they are used to last minute cancellations. We are cancelling pretty far in advance and haven't held the rooms very long. Well for the few that have booked, I had not booked hotel yet.

I'm pretty sure I'm not at risk of being stoned regardless of whom I travel with, so I can adapt to a "damp" community for 36 hours or less.

My employer that week has confirmed I may participate in events until late Thursday night, unfortunately she expects me at work in semi-rural Canada by Friday night (but I am permitted to be "tired"). Time to investigate flights!

Air Canada should have their daily non stop ANC - YVR by then. Depending how close to YVR "rural Canada" is, you shouldn't have too much trouble participating in at least part of the festivities

I survived my polar bear plunge, but always remember to bring an extra towel, because the hotel may not provide you more than one.
