Garmisch

Hi violist and lili,
Beautiful walking in the areas you mentioned.
I was on a full day walk above Garmisch on Sept 11, 2001 and returned to my guest house in the late afternoon, which was morning in New York. A TV was on in the breakfast room of the guest house, with the staff watching on in horror. John.

wow, the brunch looks delicious. We woke up a bit late that morning, and ended up going to this place called Breakfast Club for brunch, which we enjoyed and would recommend. Also, ran into lili and violist later in the day yesterday while having a beer outside a cafe!

When you return to INN, consider staying a couple nights in Garmisch,
where the scenery is like Innsbruck x10 and the hiking superb. It is
maybe E8 each way and an hour north by bus.

It was gorgeous and not too strenuous even for the jelly-legged as
we have become. Sorry that it seems to have been tied to sadder
memories for you.

Yeah - after visiting The End of Life exhibition at the Hofburg and
the big fancy tomb at the Hofkirche, lili was kind of bummed and
wanted to find a nice warm spot with a tacky accordion player
where she could have a drink and cheer up, but hanging out with
you guys cheered her up enough (though it was cold outside for
a California girl).

Thanks to szg and martin_ for arranging a terrific event in Innsbruck. I'm glad I actually spent some time in this jewel of a small city instead of just passing by on the autobahn. The restaurants were fantastic and the advice re: the Innsbruck Card and local sites was spot on.

It was great catching up with friends I'd met before at other events, and meeting new friends for the first time. Hope to see all of you again soon somewhere in this wide world of ours.

Oh, and by sticking around an extra day, I finally got a mostly sunny day!

Looks like it was a great Do. Sorry I was unable to attend. Really enjoyed the reports & all the pics (I'm now hungry!).

Cheers.

tom911 has already posted brunch photos but I have to add a few more to complete my food pictures from the Do. I'm sure breakfast at the Hilton was nice but try and beat this!

Soulkitchen, Innsbruck - quite a challenge to find the place

The price of brunch (€24.90) includes a glass of Prosecco or beer. The bar menu includes a wide selection of craft beer and single malt whisky.

An amazing juice machine

Selection of bread and pastry

Fruit and yogurt

Pizza

flospi demonstrating how to eat Weisswurst

First course

Second course

Third course

And this was all I could manage after all the food!

I wouldn't mind going back in the winter. I have my photos from Jan 2007 on line still, including this one (was even more spectacular with snow on the ground):
