Thanks for the update. Keep me posted as I can look into more of the particulars.
I am signed on for the onsen post-do, so I am planning to take the USO DMZ tour on April 1, my own pre-do. If anybody would like to join, I'd be happy for the company.

I just got back from the SIN Do last month, my first overseas DO, and loved it. This is on my radar for 2016.

No. It depends on how late we stay out on Thursday night.

Dazaifu is only 20 mins by train. Anyone can get there easily without being "organised".

There's been talk of an alternative post-do in Seoul including a stop at the DMZ. Anyone still interested aside from myself as I want to go (and depart back to the states from ICN).
I'm interested. I'm currently scheduled FUK-ICN April 5, and GMP-PEK April 7. My departure from Japan is flexible, but the departure from Seoul is harder to change.

Red face -not quite-

I had a good time on this last year in Tokyo | Yokohama.
I believed I would not be able to get to Fukuoka for Japan Do! #3.
Unfortunately, that remains the case.
But I didn't expect my travel bot would turn up another solid airfare for Tokyo in early March.
So I am going again to Tokyo for 7 - 16 March. Between remembrances of the Fukushima catastrophe, a train expansion {more through tracks from Ueno to Tokyo}, and an anniversary of a tri-prefecture subway expansion {the Fukutoshin Line's 2nd anniversary of through service from Saitama to Kanagawa {Hanno - Motomachi-Chukagai}}, I'll have a good time anyhow.
I'll follow this rubric to see where Japan Do! #4 goes.
Enjoy the festivities.

I'm currently returning to the states from ICN on the 8th of April but work may compel me to return a day early (pending space- will find out more next week).

Feel free to send me a PM- if there is enough interest I can create a post-do thread to de-clutter this one here. As I imagine it'll get a bit more busy soon.

I will be joining you on the Seoul post-DO event. I'm flying home ICN-DFW, and at this point, I will be leaving April 7th in the evening. Depending on what is planned I might be able to bump that and go home on the 8th. I think a separate thread would be helpful.

I (+1) would be interested to join Fukuoka Do (maybe main event, maybe only Nagasaki part) and potentially ICN post-DO event. I'm flying from ICN to states on Apr 7.

I think this is starting to look more and more likely for me.

Flight options look decent - now to see if I can find hotel options that don't cost an arm and a leg.

Indeed! Plenty of rooms are available on Thursday and Friday nights but it could be a challenge to find a reasonably priced room on Saturday night. Japanese hotels usually have generous cancellation policies, so you could expect last minute cancellations. I think some FTers have multiple hotel bookings during the Do.

I just ordered my train pass online. They charged me only $80SGD, which equates to Ą7000 - hopefully they won't lose too much money on me.

Train to Dazaifu

Nishitetsu runs a specially decorated train called 'Tabito' to Dazaifu. Tabito when written in Japanese (旅人 normally pronounced 'Tabi-bito') means 'Traveller' but the name is also associated with a Japanese poet, Ōtomo no Tabito (大伴 旅人), who was Governor-General of Dazaifu between 728-730. He and his son, Ōtomo no Yakamochi, contributed to compiling the Man'yōshū, the oldest existing collection of Japanese poetry, compiled sometime after 759 AD during the Nara period.

There is one through 'Tabito' train from Nishitetsu Fukuoka (Tenjin) to Dazaifu in the morning but during the rest of the day these carriages run a shuttle service between Futsukaichi and Dazaifu which only takes 5-7 minutes. It may still be worth timing our trip to ride on this train at least in one direction.

Here is a Youtube video of the train.
