Am going to cancel our 2 bedroom apartment booking at Emu Walk, as have decided to share a 2 bedroom apartment booked by another FT couple, halve the price and double the fun ^.

Any word on the costs for the bus to Uluru? Any other joint expenses? How do we pay?
Free would be nice but I prefer not to be stranded in Alice Springs.

Payment link for Ozfest11 activities
http://www.trybooking.com/ETMZ
The above link is now active for payments for all Ozfest11 activities.
If you are doing all the activities from Friday through to Sunday you can select 'Fri-Sun all events' box which combines the following activities:
1. Friday afternoon tour of the Alice Springs Desert Park followed by the Nocturnal tour then dinner at the Overlanders Steakhouse
2. Saturday morning half day sightseeing tour
3. Saturday night dinner at Hanuman Restaurant
4. Sunday touring from Alice Springs to Ayers Rock
If not are not doing all activities eg if you are flying ASP/AYQ or not arriving until Saturday then you just select the options you want individually.
Note that for the Friday night dinner, there are three options so you only need to choose only one option:
a) Alice Desert Park/Nocturnal Tour/dinner at Overlanders Steakhouse OR
b) Alice Desert Park & dinner at Overlanders Steakhouse OR
c) Dinner only at Overlanders Steakhouse
Then select the other options eg Saturday sigthseeing by checking the appropriate boxes as necessary. The www.trybooking.com site will then total up the items in your basket so you can proceed to the checkout.

Thank you ozbeachbabe for all your hard work. The QF WP's are registered for events and paid
Warning: Even if you have no dietary requirements, you can't leave that question blank. "Nil" works a treat
Also, went you go to print out "tickets", they aren't in chronological order (well mine weren't). Scroll through to check (we had Sat dinner, then Sunday, then Fri night, then Sat AM - in that order)

+1 and I are flying to Ayers Rock on Sunday (sorry - booked before the bus was announced I think), arriving at 14:50. Are we able to meet up with the bus to do the sunset tour of the Uluru? Or will we need to make our own arrangements?

With the Sunday cost being $179.70 for each person (thus $359.40 for you & +1), is it cheaper to hire car and/or find a tour that goes from AYQ in the afternoon??

The Sunday tour is very good value when you consider the inclusions:
Those who make their own way to AYQ will still have to pay the $25 park admission fee.
- Travel from Alice Springs to Uluru (Ayres Rock)
- Breakfast (at Stuarts Well Roadhouse)
- Morning tea (Atila [Mt.Conner] lookout)
- Kata Tjuta (The Olgas) National Park
- Lunch
- Uluru Cultural Centre
- Rock base tour and Mala & Mutitjulu walks
- Sunset viewing of the changing colours of Uluru with drinks & nibbles
- The $25 cost of the compulsory three day park pass
Those who make their own way to AYQ will still have to pay the $25 park admission fee.

Some words of advice about Alice Springs:
1) All of the major rental car companies have very strict mileage limits on cars, and the rates are excessive for anything over 100 km per day. Driving to the Rock is going to cost a ton of $$$. The petrol stations out there charge an insane premium. My advice is if you rent a car, don't leave town with it.
2) If you drive on those roads after dark, your odds of hitting a kangaroo are very high.
3) There are pretty good prices on day trip buses to Uluru if those hotel prices scare you off. It leaves around 6:00 and gets back around midnight, and will drop off at any hotel in town.
4) Cab rides to/from airport/town are around $40 AUD.
5) Haunamanns is one of the best restaurants in town. Overlanders is overpriced but it's good for the once in lifetime thing. Barra on Todd is pretty decent too, and Flavors of India is pretty good. The casino restaurant is acceptable (but overpriced) and after that the next best dining option is McDonalds. Not the culinary centre of Australia by a long shot.
6) Lock your stuff up. It may seem like a small middle of nowhere town, but there's a lot of property crime. Don't go anywhere near the river after dark.
7) Eat before you get to the airport - the offerings there are "limited".
8) Consider having a BBQ at the telegraph station for lunch - they have grills for public use there. Stop at Milner's meats and have them cut you a perfect piece of meat. True Outback style.
9) Stop at the Outback Desert Lodge right before you enter town right before dinner time. They sell bags of Wallabee food for a gold coin, and you can feed them as they climb down the rocks.
