RIP: wwbgd

It is with heavy, heavy heart that I post this message. :(
My friend, colleague, business partner, fellow FTer, and world traveller, wwgbd, passed away this past Friday night after a multi-year battle with cancer. Boris was with his family and was not in pain as he passed on.

Many of you knew him, many of you spent time with him, many of you knew his daughter - Masha - from a recent SIN DO. He was a kind spirit, a gentle soul who saw good in everyone that he met.

He was a champion till the end, never letting on how the pain hit him.

I introduced Boris to FT and he found many kindred spirits here as he traveled for the love of travel.
I shall miss him. Those of you who met him know what I mean. Those of you who weren't able to meet him are not as rich as you would have been - had you done so.

We all leave here much too soon. Some "sooner" than others.

I hope that Boris brought a bit of joy to your life, as I know that he did to mine.

RIP, Boris!! You're already missed!

Dave

This is very, very sad.

My condolences to his family. Boris was truly one of the "good guys".

That's so sad. I remember many happy evenings spent with him (and you)
over pitchers of Tiger, of which I shall raise one in his memory tomorrow.

Thanks for letting us know, and condolences to his loved ones.

I enjoyed many days with Boris over the years in Singapore. I'm sad to hear of his passing.

Dave, my condolences to you and to his family. He will be remembered at this and at all future SIN dos.

Boris, RIP my friend.

Awful, and for me unexpected, news.

The last time I ran into Boris was several years ago at Heathrow, in one of the clubrooms waiting for a flight with one of his adult children. He was a very pleasant person, whom unfortunately I only knew from a few occasions.

My condolences to Dave and to Boris' family.

Dave, I never met Boris, but feel your pain; as I lost a childhood friend several years back. It's hard when you lose a close friend. Sorry for your loss.

I'm not sure if I can do this " properly", but if so, here are a couple of pictures.
Boris at San Telmo market, Buenos Aires, spring 2004 and a picture of both he and the late 'Newself' in Seoul 2008

Dave, my condolences for your loss and that of Boris' family. He will go on our prayer list for the departed at St. Elias Orthodox Church in Austin. May he have memory eternal and may God grant his friends and family many years.

Like many others in this thread, I had the pleasure of meeting Boris at a SIN Do; he was a terrific and friendly person and will be missed. My condolances to all who were close to him.

Sondra and I wish to add our condolences as well. When ever we scheduled a 'DO' we always looked to see if you guys "Dave and Boris" would be attending.
Boris was one of the 'good guys' you always wanted to hang around with.

Dave, this is such sad news, Boris was a great guy and I was fortunate to have met him a few times.

Condolences to you and his family :(

The SIN Run was far better for his having joined. The world far less so for his having taken the next step. I am saddened by your loss and pain Dave. I am gladdened at having been there in SIN. May you and his family soon find peace, we are here along the way.

Dave, thank you for letting me know in person about Boris :(

As you know, I felt for him during his illness and I know he fought "the good fight" to get better, over the last few years. I am very sad to hear of his passing. He was a great person and I feel very lucky to have met and spent time with him in SIN on several occasions (along with his lovely family).

As I reflect on things, I remembered how we often joked about me sharing my "DG Karma" with him and his family to get upgrades cleared...I think it even worked on a couple of occasions :) and there was the time that I got him on the case to get all your friends to sign your FT Birthday thread as a surprise a few years back...that was fun too.

My thoughts are with you and his family at this very sad time :(

I hope he is at peace now.

Take good care of yourself, my friend.

Lori_Q Oct 10, 2012 8:41 am

How sad! Boris was gracious and friendly, and such good company. It was a privilege to spend time with him in Chicago and Singapore.

I hope you're doing okay, Dave. This must be a terrible loss for you.

work2fly Oct 10, 2012 8:54 am

Like others, I have fond memories of meeting Boris in Singapore.

Condolences to Boris' family and Dave as well.
