Space Shuttle Endeavour LAX: Sep 21 + Oct 12-13 2012
I'm thinking about flying in to see the Endeavour travel the streets between LAX and the California Science Center in October. Anyone else going? or seeing it land on Sep 21?

That's very cool! Wish I could be there.
The article says they'll let folk know good viewing areas in the near future, so keep an eye on it I guess. Cheers. |
I'm a local! Imperial hill is good, but not so much for arrivals. The grass in front of In'n'out as well. I'll probably go to the roof of an office building nearby (that I have access to). Parking Spot roof is also good. Depends on which runway the plane uses.

My October flights are booked. If anyone wants to meet up Saturday along the route, or on Sunday, let me know.

For those of you who are looking for details of the landing, some discussion about plane, er, shuttle spotting, found here:
http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/los-a...tting-lax.html Hoping I can leave work that day for the shuttle's arrival. |
It is also apparently doing a flyover at Moffett Airfield / NASA Ames for those in NorCal.

Due to weather conditions, this morning's departure from Kennedy was rescheduled to Wednesday. Flyovers in California and arrival at LAX are now on for Friday. http://www.nasa.gov/home/hqnews/2012...o_Sept-21.html

I'm a local but definitely game for a meet-up to watch the Tundra drive the Endeavor across the city in a few weeks. I haven't made any sort of plan yet so I'm open to suggestions or recommendations (I'm new to LA).
|
I wish they would have done a parade threw the city in NYC for Enterprise.

Ugh, I read on a blog, then confirmed with the City of LA, public viewing of the Endeavour is only open in designated spots along the 12-mile route. Streets will be closed off in 2-block radius. That means a gazillion people crammed into 3 spots... which means I'm re-thinking going at all. Understandable for shuttle and people safety, but very disappointing.
