Jan.-April are great.
April 29-May 5 lots of domestic travel for national holidays.
2nd week of May to end May OK.
June-Oct very much not recommended.
Nov-Dec are great.
National Holidays in Japan other than Golden Week (April 29-May 5) do not effect planning even a little.
Might want to plan around a national holiday outside of Japan so people can take an extra day.

JALPak, our beloved JAL Ambassador, armagebedar, our beloved ANA Ambassador and I are having a conf call this Sat am (quite why on a Sat morning is beyond me). Maybe its a weird Japanese custom or something.
Anyway, we're going to chew the fat and then try and decide on dates.
We'll come back to you as soon as we know more. If anyone else wants to be a part of the organising committee, don't be shy...

Don't get too excited. I just want to see how many people might be interested in attending a Japan Do.
Tokyo is my favorite city in Asia, and I think with enough planning we can obtain reasonable hotel awards and now with Haneda open, there are more flight options.
There's no shortage of attractions, I'm sure we could (with the aid of a lot of premium sake) generate some totally unsuitable photos and generally have a great time.
I would be open to help organise.
Thoughts, suggestions, ideas...

After being there last month I'd be interested in returning to Tokyo if the timing coincided with decent fares on AA.
As for timing I went during Golden Week and the hotel rates were decent e.g. The Grand Hyatt had 50% discount on the 2nd night's stay. The rates over the Easter weekend were much higher i.e. almost double IIRC (although maybe because of the Cherry Blossom season) but advance booking might help.
