"Frendship Request" at FT

Although I have been a member of FT for many years, for the first time I received an email with a Friendship Request through FT. This is new to me - never heard of this and I am wondering what the significance of it is. I do not recognize the ID of the person requesting this and wonder why it was made. Can someone offer insight or advice? Thanks

Perhaps PM the person who sent the request and ask why they sent the request, perhaps they are an FTer you met somewhere and forgot their handle?

Thanks, I thought of that but what is the point of making the request - that is, what does it accomplish? It's not like I am posting in some exclusive manner that only a "friend" could see.

as far as actual functionality not much, I would say it is a means that FTers can show that they care for another FTer in a friendship manner. (Obviously you don't need this to know if you are friends with an FTer)

Sweet Willie is correct.

The Friendship, Social Group, Facebook-style stuff was started a couple years ago here at FT. But it never caught on and is, in effect, dead IMHO.

One of the unusual features of FlyerTalk is that we have personal get-togethers called "DO's" and we hold a LOT of them annually. I know of no other website who so actively encourages these personal meetings.

In many, many ways we trump Twitter, Facebook and many other social sites in that we encourage and promote face-to-face meetings with our fellow, like-minded members,

I've attended dozens of such DO's worldwide and am happy to say that I have made several dozen close personal friends as a result.

Hope to see you one or more, JerryFF !

I would love to go to a "DO" (just too busy these days :( )... I also would like to say thank you for not turning FT into a facebook or myspace where you have to deal with friend requests in order to use the site... so annoying

Indeed for me too. Now that I am retired, I don't travel nearly as much as I used to, but hopefully something on the west coast might come up. Thanks for the explanations - I really was perplexed as the get-togethers have been a big thing for me too.
