Kiwi DO V - December 9-11, 2011 - Blenheim, New Zealand

Kiwi DO V - December 9-11, 2011 - Blenheim, New Zealand

Starting a little later than usual for planning this, but better late than never. This year I think we'll go back to what was originally planned for the Kiwi Mainland Do Toru before it was cancelled - Blenheim and the Marlborough Sounds.

The DO shall take place over the weekend of December 9-11, 2011.

EVENTS
Events include:

SATURDAY:

SCENIC FLIGHT ON A CESSNA 402 - $200 pp (max 8 people, first in first served) - BOOKING LINK
Scenic charter flight that takes in the Marlborough Sounds the Awatere Valley incorporating good views of Mount Tapuae-o-Uenuku the next highest peak in the South Island down from Mount Cook. This flight will also provide good views of the Mount Richmond Ranges towards Nelson and Port Underwood and Durville Island.

Price includes transport to/from the airfield. If available, I call shotgun.

LUNCHTIME RIVER CRUISE & WINE TOUR - $119 pp (max 11 people) - BOOKING LINK
Enjoy a light lunch on board The River Queen, cruising the Opawa River, before disembarking at the old Malthouse to join a tour of some of Marlborough's finest wineries. Perhaps our most popular package, the price includes your cruise, lunch, tour and tastings as well as our pick up and drop off service around Blenheim.

DINNER AT RAUPO CAFE
Menu here

SUNDAY:

MARLBOROUGH SOUNDS BOAT TRIP - $85 pp BOOKING LINK
This cruise will take you right up through the Queen Charlotte Sounds, give you fifteen minutes at Ship Cove and 30 minutes ashore at Motuara Islandwhich is a beautiful Department of Conservation Bird Island. We will then take you into the Endeavour Inlet before cruising back to Picton.

Thanks Will, you were reading my mind.

Thanks wijomas. I'm interested and have opted for either of the 2 December dates.

Cessna 402 sounds good, another aircraft I can add to my list.

Already been in a Cessna182 and they make the Metro23 look big in comparison.

What Air NZ flights would you recommend, and where would we stay,

From Mainland Do 3 thread:

Accommodation

There are no major chain hotels in Blenheim. Hotels are (from AA)

Scenic Circle Blenheim Country Hotel
Copthorne Hotel Marlborough
Marlborough Vintners Hotel
Chateau Marlborough
Criterion Hotel

I'll probably stay at the Copthorne, not sure yet

Flights.. I'll most likely be on the Friday 4pm Beech 1900D from AKL and leaving on the 8pm on Sunday

I'm a maybe. Schedule conflict to resolve, so likely can only make the Sunday.

Put me down as a maybe, will depend on costs. Timing should be fine for me. At the moment would probably be keen to do the Safe Air visit, Cessna scenic flight and one of the lunches. If I do go this would be my first DO!

Well I've offered to shout my old mum along (but only as far as AKL, where she will spend the weekend with old family friends ) so I guess I'm committed (or should be )
