I MISS the life!!!!!

Hello Everyone,

For years I flew back in the early 2000's up until about 2006. I signed up for this website somewhere in the middle and since have quit traveling for an office job. I was cleaning out an old box and found some old log ins and passwords written in a day planner and logged back in here.

Although I make more money than I did back when traveling, all I gotta say is I MISS IT!!!

I miss:
Airports
Flying
Getting upgraded
Being the volunteer who got 400 Delta Dollars on my travel day
Per Diem!!
Free Hotels and room service
Cashing in those airline miles/hotel points on awesome trips
Seeing 48 states and 5 countries
Having cocktails in first class
Meeting new people
Much more

But most of all, I miss being part of the flying/traveling community, and being associated with you guys. For someone who travelled for years and constantly wanted to be home because I was missing things, let me just tell you: The grass is always greener my friends. You guys are in a great line of work if it lets you travel as much as it did me (About 250 days a year in a different location). Enjoy it and remember when you think you're ready to get off the road, REALLY think it over. I don't regret ending my traveling days, but I suuuuure do miss them!!

Take Care everyone!!!!!

Instead of missing it, why don't you take some of that "more money" that you earn now and travel on the weekends? Or take vacations and travel? Or find a job that allows you to travel?

Taking action is more productive than nostalgia.

There are quite a number of us that fly and make top-tier status all on our own dimes. It's all about working with the time you have - we take lots of weekend trips and make best possible use of three-day weekends. You won't get the free stays and per diem, but you can get everything else on your list.

I've had exactly one company-paid trip in the past four years, but have made 1K every year since 2006.

When I retire I won't miss it.

You and I both know that. On top that I have taken 2 award trips this year.

:P I really wasn't posting to get flamed guys and gals. I just remembered the days of flying for business and missing it like crazy. I wish I could fly regularly but I can't, work and family trump my desire to grab a random flight to keep status.... my status sadly expired over 5 years ago :( I was merely stating the fact that I miss the life and when I DO get to fly the few times a year for vacation or whatever, I get very nostalgic...

Nobody's flaming. We're just saying that if you want to fly (or do anything else you like), you can.

I don't believe I'm flaming you either. I also didn't fly because I thought I couldn't and then I learned I could.

Am I the first one that thinks if you miss something you should achieve it or stop complaining? Is it simple enough to say either spend the $3500 or so to be DL Platinum or know that you are responsible for losing it.

I can totally understand where the OP is coming from. Travel was a different phase of your life, other things take priority today, but you still remember what it was like (good and bad) to be on the road all the time.

To some of the other posters, you may not have intended to incite, but the tone of the posts were really heading that way regardless ;). To each their own when it comes to spending time or money.

sounds like you did a lot of flying, especially domestically
Now, maybe its time to do some travelling and go beyond those 5 countries.

Welcome back. Quite frankly even though working for a major airline it's been 2 years since I've flown. Folks who freq TSS pretty much know why. However things are going on & looks like I'll be back to flying starting next Tues.

If you believe that, you must also take umbrage at motivational speakers who tell people they can do things they thought they couldn't.

Motivational speakers are supportive not confrontational ;)

Retirement just makes it easier to jump on sale fares and burn miles. I've been retired 6 years and I'm flying more than ever. My biggest challenge now is currency exchange rates. I cancelled an Australia trip in May when the Australian dollar hit $US1.09. Next month Shanghai on miles.
