FT member and technology columnist for the Washington Post moves on
DCAWriter is finishing up a 17 year stint at The Washington Post, most recently as the Post's technology columnist.
I think this is a huge mistake on the Post's part and a sign of the paper choosing quantity over quality. I'm sure he'll have no trouble finding a new gig. |
I'd only recently begun following the blog and posts via FB and the RSS feeds, and was extremely disappointed to see his goodbye post. I've totally enjoyed the variety and content Rob has had to offer, and don't believe it would be easily replaced.
I do need to say that the Post is also giving up quantity, as well as quality, with this decision, as I've been amazed at just how many pieces are produced for his blog/column on a daily and weekly basis ^ I wish Rob the best with his future endeavours, and hopes he enjoys his home/Daddy time. BTW - I think your link is off ... try here for his departure announcement |
This really is awful news. DCAWriter has been a mainstay of that paper for quite a while and those are awfully big shoes to fill. I sure will miss Fast Forward and his other stuff.
However, we found Brian Krebs after his departure from the Post and I am sure that DCAWriter will continue on somewhere imparting to us so much new knowledge in his inimitable style We do wish him the best and hope that his landing place is broadcast to us right here somehow. If not, we will be looking around for him. |
Thanks
Appreciate the comments, all. I'll be alright - even if my time off will mean I'd miss a couple of work trips that would have normally put me over the top for UA 2P status this year ;)

Which statement proves that DCAWriter is a true FTer at heart. ^
Hasta la vista. We'll be looking for you. :) |
rob, I've relied on your WP column and chat for years and until now didn't realize you were DCA Writer. The once great Washington Post - my hometown newspaper - has been ravaged and what remains is simply a hollow shell of it's former glory. Your departure is basically the final nail in the coffin for me. Best of luck in your next adventure and here's hoping it comes with some wings. Catch you at DCA.

This sad news reminds me of the Houston Chronicle's and Seattle Post-Intelligencer's own shuttering of their civil aviation writers, but I'm confident DCA Writer is in good hands with our continued support & his own skill which is clear and obvious in his writing. Enjoy that time off! Cheers.
