* Converting your mileage award request from 'no!' to 'no problem'...learn the art of redeeming miles
* Wallet-sized precious metals...learn why platinum and gold are paved with travel riches

We should have more information shortly on the subject of each seminar.

What's Included:

Friday evening cocktail reception (Free Drinks!)

Breakfast, lunch and snacks on Saturday

A full day of seminars with some of the frequent travel community's best minds!

How Much:

$49 gets you free drinks, a full day of seminars and meals!

Rooms are available at the Sheraton Laguardia East Hotel on Friday and Saturday night for $149. The room block is very limited, so book early. The hotel has less than 200 rooms total, so it will fill up.

We are also limited to 350 spots for the seminars. It is highly likely this event will fill up as well.

For now, please post your interest for seminar attendance in this thread AND also indicate if you will be reserving a hotel room at the Sheraton for Friday night.

We will limit the interest list to 300 for right now until registration opens up, then fill the last 50 spots.

PMs with questions are welcome.

HPN-HRL Feb 20, 11 3:45 am

Count me in! I'm relatively local, so no hotel needed.

Middle_Seat Feb 20, 11 7:27 am

If it's just half as good as the Chicago educational get together last Fall, this meeting will be great!

I notice that this event schedule meshes nicely with the April 28 Frequent Traveler Awards.

miles4CDG Feb 20, 11 8:34 am

I'm in. ^ - no hotel needed.

NYC101 Feb 20, 11 1:12 pm

Can you get VJ on the program?

PFKMan23 Feb 20, 11 9:28 pm

Count me in.

Seminar + hotel for now.

Flyer girl Feb 20, 11 9:42 pm

Definitely interested. Would need hotel room Friday night.

aktchi Feb 20, 11 9:57 pm

Interested in seminar + hotel.

Question1: Does the hotel rate require 2-night stay? I may have to leave Sat evening/night. If so, and if one night is not permitted, I can (reluctantly) consider another nearby hotel.

Question2: Like any good FTer I have to ask, is $149 a/i rate? :)

Suggestion: One day is not a whole lot of time. I suggest avoiding "what is MR" and "why we should accumulate miles" type talks. Anyone willing to fly to NYC is clearly beyond that. Similarly, while a little bit of nostalgia about unrepeatable feats can be fun, let the focus be on tools and techniques that can be put to use in 2011.

FriendlySkies Feb 20, 11 10:03 pm

If it were one weekend later, I'd love to go.. I'll be in BOS for a hockey tournament on the 30th :(

ShopAround Feb 21, 11 1:08 pm

Very interested. No hotel needed.

belleNY Feb 21, 11 6:36 pm

Interested in program, no hotel needed

CDKing Feb 21, 11 7:00 pm

Mark me down including hotel (fri + sat night). Will be getting there the anti-flyertalk way ie Greyhound Bus. Well i did earn a free bus ticket from my trips to the airport so i guess it sort of counts. Any guess what time the Friday cocktail party may begin?

jfkeze Feb 21, 11 7:01 pm

Interested , no hotel... I'm a local...

Suggestion, I second the "Let's avoid what's an MR?" topics... let's focus on current ideas, also perhaps some Credit Card/Bank Bonuses seminar on how to fund accounts with promos and CC... since lot's of us also pad our accounts with these techniques...

also, perhaps an advanced ITA class seminar, I know some people (including me) who pad MRs nicely with extra stops... and then how to book these ITA deals on several sites...

just my 2 cents! but either way, I'm in...

Top of climb Feb 21, 11 7:11 pm

Interested in seminar, but not the hotel.

The hotel rate does NOT require a 2 night stay.

As to question 2, we're working on lowering the rate right now. But, the $149 is NOT an all-in rate.

Thanks. The rate is showing up as 149 (174 a/i) on just about every hotel site, courtesy Google, so there is no group discount for us so far.

El_Chiflero Feb 21, 11 10:16 pm

Free booze? I'm in!

usa18dca Feb 21, 11 10:30 pm

I'm in plus one... we won't be staying at the Sheraton.

Can Randy PM me since I'd very much like a Sign Language interpreter, it wouldn't be fair for my +1 to interpret for me all day since I want her to learn more about FlyerTalk and being a Frequent Flier (She's CO*Plat dropping to CO*Gold) for what it's worth.

Getiton Feb 21, 11 10:53 pm

I will attend and need stay at Sheraton.

NYC101 Feb 22, 11 9:09 am

Stupid Dulta cancelled my reservation without notice, new booking will allow me to attend this NYC DO. Not bad, I guess.

aktchi Feb 22, 11 11:51 am

Hotel ideas...

This might be a situation when one does better with one of those 50% off SPG cards (off the rack rate, but still 50%)? If so, I may have a couple of these to spare as well.

There is always the possibility of sharing a room.

Area experts, what are other good and cheap hotels within walking distance?

jfkeze Feb 22, 11 12:24 pm

actually this hotel seems to be very close to the Flushing subway stop, so it should be commutable any time of day or night via subway.

A google map shows a Best Western and a Comfort Inn near by, but if you're in need of a hotel, usually it's best to stay at the main one

at first I thought this was the Marriott near LGA but this one is right next to the subway so it's easy to get to and from the city or from JFK...

jb831 Feb 22, 11 12:37 pm

*edit* Please ignore this post. :)

It is, and that is one of the reasons we chose it as the venue for the event.

We're VERY close to opening up registration and booking. It'll be ready soon.

This isn't Randy's event. It is being run by the Frequent Traveler Education Foundation, the same folks who run the Frequent Traveler Awards.
