Flyertalkers get engaged at the Chicago Seminar DO
This is mentioned in the main Seminar DO thread, but I thought it deserved a separate post to draw a bit more attention.
I wasn't in the room, but heard the story from a few others; I did know in advance it was going to happen. If any details are off, let me know and I will correct. At the DO we gave out door prizes through random drawing at all the seminar sessions. $100 AA/Hyatt/Marriott gift cards, that sort of thing. On Saturday afternoon in (I think) the 3 o'clock session, ingy did the regular 3 drawings and then announced that he had an extra door prize to award. So he called out one more number and an excited gal jumped up to claim it. She was handed a small Zales' bag with a handle. Somewhat confusedly, she reached in and pulled out a small cubical box, which she opened. For a few seconds she stood staring at it, and then someone was heard to say, "That looks like an engagement ring." The awardee turned to her boyfriend, and then it suddenly hit her and she was overcome, turning to the wall and alternately laughing and crying. After a bit, someone called out, "So is the answer yes or no?" The "yes" elicited a huge cheer. I was introducing the other session, so I went over to verify the "yes," then returned to my seminar to announce the happy news, so there was another huge roar. I have some pictures, so if anyone can walk me through how to post them I will put them here. Our heartiest congratulations to Keith (mommafrica) and Elaine. Word is there will be a celebratory party at some point. |

I've taken the liberty of amending the thread title, since it could be read in a way which was not what the thread subject was about.
Congratulations to the happy couple! Jenbel Co-moderator, Communitybuzz! |
VERY neat story! Thanks for sharing and best wishes to FT's newest engaged couple!!

Being in the room where the engagement happened it was pretty cool! In the back at first we couldn't figure out what was going on - what was the prize? Then why was the person who 'won it' turned to face the wall w/ her hands over her face, and then when she turned back w/ a big smile on her face & Keith was facing her, we realized what was going on & the clapping & cheering started, and then someone said did she say yes & ingy did a big thumbs up & the seminar crowd went wild, clapping & cheering!!! Then I pulled out the smartphone & texted another FT couple who had gotten engaged a few months ago to let them know, and emailed Randy to let him know.
Cheers. |

What can I add to all of these congrats? Mega congrats! I met Mommafrica in August at Schley's seminar. Before many other people arrived, he accompanied me on a mission to the local mall. Any guy who would do that is really special! I sort of 'met' Elaine then as well because we chatted on the phone. They both are wonderfully genuine individuals - I'm sure this will be a great union.
We might see another FT'er on here because she not only participated in the FT community over the week-end, but received a bump on the way home and a lovely 'free' night at the Hilton. To Mommafrica and Elaine: Love you both to bits and I am immensely happy for you! ^^^ |
