Is it just me, or are some replies to posts a bit snippy (short-tempered, demeaning) in these threads. I am surprised at how harsh some people are.
(I am probably inviting a snippy comment here....)

You are quite correct.. there ARE snippy posts out there.

Having said that, IMO at least a pretty decent proportion of such posts range from eminently justifiable to "a bit strong but understandable"...:D
