I was thinking of starting a scuba DO down in haigh quarry in bradley IL. It would be a full day to relax. BBQ outside, plenty of diving and relaxing.
from early morning till evening (maybe even a night dive!)

You can rent equipment there, or there are a few shops (plainfield and orland park to name 2 spots) that rent.

For those that never dived, if a couple of people are interested I can arrange a intro to scuba.

If you have any question, let me know. As of now I'm a certified PADI Divemaster and should by the start be a SDI Instructor.

I would be interested but the drive is just too far from Toronto to IL! Sounds like fun, Fully Certified in Deep water diving!

Great Idea, I Love diving, just not going to spend time/$ to dive a quarry.

Have always wanted to dive Lake Michigan or other Great Lakes.

From the limited research I've done, nearest 'decent' wreck diving to Chicago is off of Milwaukee. Most dives require drysuit which I've never used.

The other place of interest I've looked at is diving near Munising, Michigan: http://www.exploringthenorth.com/scuba/diving.html

The dives in the quarry are just fine with a wetsuit

Cool idea!! What is there to see in the quarry? I've only done ocean and river diving to see the reefs, fish, and wrecks.

Yeah, I have been experienced diving at old school by 14 years ago. I remember that I learns how to do scuba. I remember a few years ago that I went to Hawaii. I remember that I am experienced with Sea Trek to put me under the water at Sea Life Park near Honolulu, HI. It was so enjoyable that I went under the water with the helmet on to breath air that I can barely see it myself. I petted with sea turtles and others sea animals, too. I cannot allow to touch with the fishes. It was so wonderful time that I went under the water at Sea Life Park.

I might be up for that. I've always meant to dive Haigh Quarry, but I never quite find the time. What are the water temperatures like in August?

Not bad. The surface is around 80F.
There are usually 2 thermalclines - one at around 20-25ft dropping down to like 70F or so and then a big one at the flamingo (boat) at around 35F dropping down to 50F
Ive seen people dive with less than 7mm (one of my instructor just dives with a skin. It's warm) but if you want to check out the boat or the hole, a hood and gloves would be good.
