San Antonio, September or October 2000. I'd always wanted to go there for a weekend, and the airfare was good enough. Sadly most of the people there that weekend either do not post any more or just post rarely.

Hmmm, does anyone else see a direct correlation there...

Gah! I'm absolutely blanking on which Do was my first. The first FTer I ever met is easy enough to recall, though: PremEx at one of ORD RCC's in July or August of '98. I's all big old blur after that. :)

The original DUS Do or one of the Catman DOs would've been my first big par-tay, but I suspect a smaller get-together in SEA or TPA prior was the actual first Do.

Comin' up on 12 years of FT friendships just boggles the mind. :o

My first DO was an early SeaDO hosted by the fantabulous missydarlin. I knew no one but left the event with many new friends and a thirst for travel that lasts until this very day.

My second DO was the Tour De France DO in Lyon, where we experienced the Lyon Death Climb;) First and only paid international flights.

When I went to plan my third DO visit, BooDO in BCN, MD helped me with my routing. I wanted to fly business class to get there using AS miles. I was informed, very emphatically, "You are NOT flying business class on this trip. You are flying BA F!!!" by said MD. Awesome trip from beginning to end which solidified many U.S. and international friendships that continue to this day.^^^

Wonder if the OP ever made it to a DO?

FlyerEC Aug 18, 2013 9:38 pm

Just located this thread.
What really makes it a ' Do '?
Thanks
Haven't been to a Do but at least 3 of us are meeting in Oct at Amanpuri for what we call our mini Amanjunkie " Do ".
Perhaps will make it to first official one in SEA , SFO or LON next year..
Unless there's one in ZRH or BER in September

One can always look at the Flyertalk glossary. (see HELP drop down at top of page)

A Do is meeting of Flyertalkers, no limit on how many or few. A Do can simply be meeting for drinks, dinner or meeting for a weekend w/activities.

That's a Do:-: if you are interested in having other Flyertalkers join the 3 of you, simply post the details of the Amanjunkie Do in the CommunityBuzz forum by starting a thread.

A Do is open to any Flyertalker, most Flyertalkers who attend a Do are very pleased they have.

Thanks Sweet Willie!
Still finding my way around after all these years.. Exciting discovering new things all the time here.
AFAIK , have only met one FTer ( possibly 2 ) so far in person.
Will check if the others want to start a new thread.
Amanpuri seems strangely rather full then, at least certain favourite pavilions are taken, but the larger villas maybe available to accommodate a large FT gathering ;)

The First FTer I ever met was infoworks, before a SQ flight from SYD to SIN (he was, as usual, in F - I was slumming it in whY - he was most gracious in guesting me into the lounge in SYD) - then, in SIN the same day, I met up with KiwiFlyer, cgk and jjpb3.

The First DO I attended was OzFest 2012 - hard to give that a miss considering it was in Canberra. The second DO was the first ever Japan Do earlier this year.

I am yet to spot (or be spotted because of) the FT Luggage Tag though.

I've always had a policy of not disagreeing with my friends when they post, but this begs for an answer. ;)

The first continuous DO's were the CatmanDo's back in the early days of Flyertalk. Somewhere in this forum is an (official) explanation. Bottom line, a DO is a gathering of 12 or more Flyertalkers.

Disclaimer: I'm good friends with Catman and Sweet Willie.

You cannot, however, have it placed in the official list of Dos until you have 5 people attending:

We'll try and add in any DO/Meet which has more than five FT attendees

My first DO was Venice in 2004, beautifully arranged by O2K. I had the great pleasure of flying from ATL to VCE with KLC as my seatmate and we became great friends. Sadly she is gone as most of you know. On that wonderful trip I became hooked on FT, some DOs and met many new friends....Canarsie, Cholula, O2K, Dorlee, Ms. Everywhere, Monitor, Franny, Lili, Dovster, Punki and many more I am forgetting to remember. Loved it!
