Last year, my brother, Eamon died very suddenly. Eamon was, amongst other things a daily user of Flyertalk. He spent hours reading the the mileage run deals and other helpful tips and advice from other frequent flyers. I enjoyed listening to him as he read the amusing Trip Reports. He also met up with fellow Flyertalk members here in New Zealand, when they came through on their own trips

For some reason, I do not know his username. Maybe someone reading this will remember him. Eamon was tetraplegic and used a motorized wheelchair. But he never let his disability stand in the way of travelling the world. Which he did. At his funeral my other brother read his eulogy and we had to mention Flyertalk and list all the places he had been, becuase travel was huge in his life.

Not only did Eamon loved to travel, but he loved travelling in style. He was a frequent flyer of many airlines, but was Gold Elite year after year with Air New Zealand. I would say he was obsessed. But he loved it!!

I miss him terribly and recently registered with FlyerTalk, so I could post this and feel close to Eamon.

If there is anyone out there who knew Eamon or his alter Flyertalk ego, give me a sign... :confused:

I also met Eamon at the Christchurch DO mentioned above, and he certainly lived life to the full (and not just on the social scene - he discussed with us being an advocate for people with mobility problems)!

Led us to the SOL bar/nightclub area in Christchurch for music and drinks on the Saturday night.

I was looking forward to sharing some more beers with him, sadly not to be.

I'm sorry for your loss. Maybe now you've signed on you'll stay and become part of the community your brother enjoyed. :)

I met Eamon at OzFest 4 in Melbourne. It is sad to hear he is gone.

We met at the small DO I organised in WLG... Must have been around 05 or 06. He was a remarkable individual, with so many achievements.

Those who met him through FT miss him, and the world will miss his many contributions.

Thank you everyone for taking the time to post a reply to this thread. It was a long shot, given it has been over a year. I don't know why I didn't think of doing it sooner. I guess, everything in its time...

I have been reading CHC Kiwi's posts. I remember when he first started on Flyertalk - he would just read and read and read. He needed to learn the jargon and acronyms because air travel is full of it. Initially he was just learning from more experienced travellers. But when he started talking about mileage runs I knew he was gone!!

Did you know about the AirNZ mileage run to Raro? He missed it because he got the day wrong! He was deeply embarrassed!!

I was very close to Eamon. I was his assistant for him for a time for his work in New Zealand. I can see why he was hacked off about the Koru Lounge cutbacks. He was quite partial to a gimlet (or three) at the end of the day in the Wellinton or Auckland lounges. After which he would get very chatty with the AirNZ concierges!! They loved him!!

The real tragedy is that his airpoints could not be transferred to Vivien, his partner. At the time he died he had racked up quite a few and had several internationals planned for 2009.

I enjoyed listening to his own trip reports. He was a details man - and I wanted details!! Especially about inflight food and entertainment. He was very generous and would pass on to the family a lot of freebie stuff from the First Class flights. He would often gift upgrades to us as well, which we all appreciated.

I miss him, but he has left a legacy - in so many ways.

So sorry for your loss. So my condolences with your family and we are mourn for your brother's death. I can't believe him that I didn't realize know him before.

Like others I met Eamon at OzFest 4 in Melbourne. Had several private messages with him while helping organise Oz Fest 4. He lived not far away from where I grew up near Christchurch.
