We made it back to London through a stroke of luck and a friend who happened to be driving to London from France.
We have a spare room to offer. We live near Regents Park. PM me for info. |

I'm stuck in ICN.
I was on the Asiana flight that made it halfway between ICN and LHR before it got turned back to ICN  Since then I've been jumping from hotels to staying at places that friends have been able to accomodate me at for a few days. Now going back to a hotel tonight. No luck changing my ticket to get into Europe somewhere either, so just waiting it out until the airspaces open up. Anyone that wants to meet for some noodles or a beer let me know. |

Moved from MIA to Tokyo
I got bored in Miami so have come East to Tokyo via Chicago. To be honest it's just as bad here in Asia as it is in the States. Spain seems to be everyone's target at the minute, talking to folks here at Narita.
I am not any better off than when I was in MIA but at least I am not any worse off. |

I read online this morning that Spain is going to be the new Europe Central in terms of trying to get planes in/out & people to destinations since they're - so far - not as affected as other locations. So fingers crossed for some of you that you'll be able to get back via Madrid, even if it's more complicated.
I also read that some NATO F-16s flew through the ash & did take some damage, so when they restart commercial flights really hope that they - even if they have to burn more fuel - vector around it when possible. Don't want this to turn into a flights resumed too soon w/ negative results thread. And I'm sure after this is all over there will certainly be debriefs because right now it doesn't sound like the various countries are coordinating very well. TuxTraveller, were you part of the 40 passengers that stormed the airline desks this morning in Korea? And all of you know that we're there supporting you, even if we can't actually support you. But some of us have contacts in various places, so do PM us if you need assistance or are where we are. Cheers. |
can offer assistance for sfo
a little late to the party but if anyone is stranded at sfo without a hotel, i can offer a pull out couch to a single or a couple (and i'll even come and pick you up)
also, if anyone can tell me if folks stranded at sfo are "bunking in the terminal" as where i'm only 30 minutes away i would be more than happy to deliver about 20 bars of liberated ;) hotel soaps so you can at elast freshen up :) |
One of the most Four Paws up threads around! :)
Hope everyone gets HOME or to where they are going soon! |
madrid to calais bus
Hostal El Caņo de Alpedrete (www.hostal-alpedrete.com) is organizing buses to go from Madrid (Spain) to Calais (France) and from Calais to Madrid.
Departures on Wednesday (April 21st) morning. We are looking into services for Tuesday (20th) as well. |
Looks like there is some good news on the horizon for all that are stranded.
At AMS the first 3 flight with passengers will leave this evening for New York (haven't been able to found out yet which airport), Dubai and Shanghai. Where need be, changes to altitude etc will be put into place. No news yet as when more flights will operate. As of yet, these 3 flights are the only ones. Also the EU has decided to chance the policy of closing airspace. They'll be implementing a system with 3 zones. Each zone has it's own restrictions. Zone one; no flights at all. Zone two; some flights under strict regulations. Zone three; proceed as normal schedule would. Eurocontrol will determine which zone will be where, zones will be implemented starting tomorrow morning at 8 am. |
Apparently Liverpool FC are part of the stranded, so who knows we might see them at FT things!

Things are starting to look really good.
KLM will be flying folks back to AMS also this night, on a 4 flights total. For tomorrow KLM has no less than 50 intercontinental flights planned leaving AMS. They expect to be able to run about 50% of normal with regards of their European flights. Smaller Dutch airlines have stated they'll probably take a bit longer to get things started again, claiming it'll take some time arranging it all, getting planes there where they need be etc. Fifty LH planes are on their way to bring back home large amounts of stranded Germans (have heared numbers as high as 15.000), also expected back home this night/early tomorrow morning. British authorities have announced the opening of airspace for Scotland and Northern England starting tomorrow morning. Fingers crossed this is the worst we've seen with regards to this vulcano eruption. |
