Well, my wife & I are here (2nd time) and having a riot -- as in a really good time, although some Athenians are having real riots. :D

If you couldn't get to the Plaka, you didn't try. We've walked to/through/around it several times this week, eaten dinner there twice, will be eating dinner near riot central (Syntagma Square) this evening.

Sorry you're missing out on all the great -- and realtively inexpensive -- fun in a fascinating city.

Have a good flight. Hope the weather in Europe won't cause any delay. New heavy snow falls coming form the west (Netherlands) are reported for Germany. Weather warnings and travel advisories are in effect.

I'm in Frankfurt LH lounge at A26 which is pretty much thr end of the Fraport earth, and it's cold and sunny. Make that VERY cold. How would I know? Remote stand of course.

Ugh! I arrived to Athens and I found out we're having guests at our home and I need to spend time with them. Tomorrow is out for me and the rest of the days are looking difficult too. I knew I'd be chased by people these days, but I didn't know they would be expecting me at home. Such a pity that there's a FT Do at my hometown and I'm going to miss it. I still hope I'll manage to squeeze some time to meet you guys!

I am on my way. 5 inches of fresh snow in HAM and a short layover in MUC. Only one HAM-MUC flight canceled as of now.

I'll try to catch up with you shortly after 1PM.

Hm, cannot edit my post with the Iphone.
MUC is operating with one runway at a time and Most likely I won't make it in time for my connecting flight. Should be there in the afternoon.

When should. I be at Scholario for dinner? See you all tonight. I managed to catch an earlier delayed flight.

I have to cancle. Swiss is not able to get me to Athens before tomorrow afternoon. The chaos at FRA was unbelievable. I'm now sitting in the ICE back to Bonn.

Thank you Mike and Kathy for organizing the Do! I hope the snow does not affect the inbound travel as it affected the outbound for some folks. I was lucky and got home half an hour early.

I had a great time and look forward meeting you again, e.g. at SIN-DO ;-)

How are you doing this? You arrived early in Athens and you are back home half an hour earlier while thousands of others are stranded at airports all over Europe. Would you like to share your secret with us (Are you using Santa's sleigh?)

Not just the storms north of us but we have to dodge the strikes here to get out. About half the people left yesterday & should have made it out ok, weather permitting.

Today there is a 24-hour transit strike & Wednesday there is another ATC strike. My wife & I are leaving Tuesday, hopefully in a window between strikes, although the unions are promising some random short strikes throughout the week.

You're welcome, and thanks to all who managed to get here and (hopefully) leave despite the weather & strikes.

FlyerTalkers seem to be a pretty resilient bunch. Of the 4 definites who didn't make it, only one appeared to be due to the weather, none due to the strikes.

chumbawumba told a nice Christmas story (and disillusioned me) thus I am not sure if I should really tell the story.
But here it goes. It happens to be that my sleigh was bound to Munich instead of the frozen tundra that is Frankfurt. The sleigh which was supposed to take presents and candy (Milka 40g chocolate bars) to Hamburg the hour before from MUC was five minutes late. I asked the elf lord at the gate to be allowed on this chariot and was permitted.

Thanks Mike and Kathy! It was a very nice time in a very nice city. Your planning and checking things out made it a enjoyable DO.

I just got home. Metro wasn't on strike the day I left Athens, my passport wasn't really lost just forgot it was in a travel pouch around my neck, ATH-FRA delayed 3 hours, so I got to see the Aegean Lounge after the LH lounge closed. I had a Sheraton Points & Cash layover booked at FRA, $60 USD for which they gave me 32 Euro in a breakfast voucher and free internet. FRA-IAD upgrade cleared, flight left more or less on time at 11 am Monday, as did IAD-SAN. It was like traveling in a protective bubble where nothing could go wrong. I wish everyone could be so lucky, especially all those still stuck in airports everywhere.

Too many photos here. Probably slow loading, because I left the files large (er, huge) because a few people wanted to download one or two.

Thanks again everybody for making this a great weekend!

Thanks for sharing lili. Looks like you all had a good look around the city and a nice time all round. Would love to have been there but, alas, distance and economics do not allow me to attend every DO that I want to , so the next best thing is to live vicariously through the photos.

big +1, thanks so much for sharing. that restaurant looks fun and delicious. Mrs Sweet Willie & I had canceled our planned trip so this was looking good for us to attend but alas I just did not have a chance to plan as much as I would like so we chose an alternate no brain vacation to the sun.
In the photos I noticed one of a trash pile, was there a strike or ?
