Thanks for keeping things organized opushomes. I know how you love to arrange things and act as tour guide
Sorry, but please re-add me to Saturday dinner at Jumbo. I've heard there are non-seafood options and the High Tea is more lunch than dinner. And I was the lone FTer not attending. Hotels, not of particular significance, but am Crowne Plaza at Changi after midnight on the 14th (technically the 15th), Fairmont at Raffles the 15th, then moving to the Conrad for 16th and 17th. Then Kuching Hilton 18-21. Or something like that. Anyone: will there be Tiger beer at Boat Quay before Jumbo? If so, when? |

I've finalized my hotel arrangements. Could you list me as "Transit, Conrad". Thanks. I count 57 attendees so far. For events like this, I find a list of attendees, flights and hotels very helpful. So thank you opushomes et al. |
Great thread
Excellent list, thank you opushomes.
Kindly update my hotel dates as followed: 1/14-1/15 = Marriott 1/15-1/18 = Four Seasons |
could you please alter my arrival date to Jan13th , on QF009 at 2130ish i think it is.
Might HI it up for the stay credit that night and IC from the 14th. Not sure about the PreDo, tho I am keen to visit Changi Prison Museum, there are tours in English at 11am and 2pm, so if anyone wants to go too, thats great, I understand its excellent |

Then Kuching Hilton 18-21. Or something like that. Anyone: will there be Tiger beer at Boat Quay before Jumbo? If so, when? Let me deal with Lili's comments and some other items. 1. Lili: Do not confuse me with a tour guide. No resemblance. Do not own a megaphone or flag on a stick. 2. You are re-added to Jumbo dinner. When I call them, I will verify that other items are available. I would not be surprised if they would make you a hamburger. Boxo, I will verify whether they have Indian items; I believe they do. I was wrong, they do not have Indian items but they will do their best to do special order items in Western fashion. They will have some form of BBQ which I know that you like. As a fall back, the frog's legs are outstanding. (from land based frogs of course ;)). For those of you have a dislike for things that swim they definitely have non swimming items. If you want me to ask them for anything special, please PM me before I leave on Monday, January 11. 3. Please coordinate with Blank Sheet and SeanthePilot on the pre-beer beer place. Normally, the hard core start about 4 p.m. at the Thai Place on Boat Quai because they have cheaper prices and may be negotiable during the quiet time. Remember that we are having dinner at 8 so you may want to start somewhat later. Or, as an alternative just take the lead and name the time and place. 4. For those who asked if it would be ok to come to dinner and not eat. I would hope that those at your table will work out your portion of the cost for things like cover, service, tax and drinks. There will be cover charged at Jumbo (peanuts, sweet sauce and wet-wipes). This is customary at most seafood places that I have visited in Singapore. For the chili crab slobs (who me? :)), they are somewhat unique in that they also provide napkins and bibs upon request. 5. If someone thinks of something to do, just post it with times and meeting place in the main thread. Hey the reason that we are doing this is for the comraderie. The gluttony is only ancillary. Everyone is welcome. For the newbies: this is why this is such a well-attended event populated by many repeat attendees. Do not expect a great deal of organization because it is up to you to decide what to do. Believe me, the approach works at this event. |
For beers, just "go with the flow."
Nonfishy delights at Jumbo will be pretty scanty compared to the regular heavy seas menu. I'd suggest that those interested in such (bbq is likely, as opushopes suggests, and chicken dishes) band together to form a just-say-no-to-fish-abuse table - vegetarians might have to be included to make a quorum. I'll say this will be one of the few occasions when I'll not be eager to dine with lili. As far as not eating at all goes, don't plan on getting off cheap. Some concession will be made, I'm sure, if you don't eat, but imagining that your bill will be 0 is a foolish fond old wish. I'd also suggest if there are multiple noneaters that you should spread themselves out to be no more than one or two at a table - if more, you will be cutting down on the food variety at that particular table, a behavior that should be penalized! |

It is approximately half way down the Quay, and YES, we will likely have made special arranagements prior to Violist's arrival. ;) Dave |
A small update from my side:
1/15 - 1/17 - Intercontinental 1/17 - 1/18 - Conrad |

Really looking forward to my first DO -- and apologies if this is not the best place to post the following:
Anyone interested in a long walk or hike on Saturday the 16th? High Tea sounds fun but I think I may try to get in a long walk starting (not too early) in the morning prior to a rest and then the pre-dinner beers. Not really sure where to go so suggestions very welcome -- I'm staying at the Sheraton but could meet up anywhere. Long walk = 5 or 7 miles (+/-), trails or urban walk ok, not hiking boots or roped climbing :D . Thanks, -C |

walking is copious there if not strenuous. You might also consider the Bukit Timah Nature Reserve, a quick bus ride on the 170-171-173 from downtown, which offers a good range of terrain and wildlife (especially birds, monkeys, and it is said during mating season, the odd tiger or two). violist would be interested, but he's become a heart patient again and has to take it easy. |
