what to do with orphan thank you points?

Anyone have any suggestions on what to do with orphan thank you points left in both my and my wife's thank you accounts?

With 1 point only equal $0.01 in airline travel doesn't apppear to make any sense to leave the points in thank you for future airline travel needs when they offer gift cards at the same payout ratio that I can use today.

That is unless anyone know of remaining thank you benefits that pay out beter than 10,000 points = $100 gift card?

Assuming you have less than 20,000 TYP left, your best redemption value is going to be $.01 per point going forward. You can certainly redeem for gift cards or use the credit to offset the price of a flight or hotel stay.

what about 1,200 pts? what can i do with that?

Call Citi to cancel your card, citing TYP devaluation. Wait for 5 bonus TYP/$ for 6 months offer (this may take some whining, but they were very quick to offer 4 bonus TYPs/$). Order coins or open checking account. Redeem for travel giftcards or student loan checks, or even for flights at 1cpp.

What's the best value if you have more than 20,000 points?

The best value is not to leave 20K points on the table!

You can't think of any domestic RT ticket you might want (around $400 obviously) within the next year?

I second that.

I thought the 20k fixed-flight option was history. Is there a separate option for JetBlue or is that one gone as well? Personally, I did book several TYP fixed flights before the deadline, but with over 250k points, it was tough to use them all, and I was accruing more as I spent them. I did book a pair of 90k fixed-flight tix and cancelled them for DL credit, but not without an interesting experience that left me with only slightly more than half the credit I was expecting.

Is this still an option?

entropy Mar 4, 2009 3:32 pm

no, the best value left at TYP is a 1c MAX.

I'm using it for student loan rebates..

Fixed point redemption was extended till 9pm today. You MIGHT get lucky and try first thing in the morning, but the program is literally disappearing right now.
