What is the best redemption strategy for 60k typ?
So I only have 60k typ, I guess the options I have is:
(1) 50k hawaii + 10k variable for a $1100 ticket
(2) 60k Europe for a $1200 ticket
Now if I am right, the change fee of UA for (1) is $150 and $250 for (2), so both will give me a $950 UA credit. But given that taxes to Europe is higher than hawaii, option (1) seems to be better as it incurs less out of pocket expense. Is my calculations above right? TIA!

I would book the 50K to Hawaii for a $1000 ticket bcs then you are not restricted to buying an int'l ticket when exchanging your ticket, as some people have reported. There is no advantage to using the extra 10K now rather than after 3/1. It is worth $100. You can also get any other award that TYN offers for that 10K points, including a $100 gift card.

You might get close to $1150-$1180 net out of 60k TYP with additional $160 to $180 out of pocket to cover tax & fees, so total value will be $1350. Not bad if you can not get 3% redemption. But it need you to do some investigation to find out how to do it.
