- Retention offers, generally speaking, are offers made by a card issuer when they believe you might close your card account.

Often this means you have to actually say specifically you "want to cancel the card because..." before they can offer you something. Being vague saying things like "I'm not sure I want this card", or "are there any offers for me to keep this card?" don't meet their threshold to make an offer until you use the "c" word in a declarative fashion.

- Offers may include cash, points, or a combination of both and are frequently linked to required spending on the card.

- You can contact Citibank's Retention Department directly at 800-444-2568, and avoid the front line customer service reps.

- For additional tips on interacting with retention representatives, see this blog post by someone who claims to have worked for Citi's retention department.

They only extended 1K credit line on a business card?!

Someone reported his 2 cards were cancelled by Chase because he made prepayments to do the account funding gig.

However I am sure you can pay in full before statement close date and restore the credit line without raising any redflag.

not completely related to this but somewhat...
I too have a Biz card with 1K limit. So lets say that I spend 1K in a week and immediately pay it off, repeat that 2 more times so that when the statement closes I have spent 4K, payments for 3K and 1K balance. How many miles do I get end of statement? 1K for the remaining balance? or 4K for the total account spend in the month?

4K. It is always based on spendings during the billing cycle.

payment has nothing to do with when and how much you earn - it only matters to keep your account in good standing, thus you can get the benefits.

Current Citi retention bonuses

Just wondering if anyone has any data points on current citi retention bonuses. Called to cancel my citi premier pass elite card since the annual fee is coming up and there were no retention offers, only an offer to downgrade to regular premier pass. Are others having similar experiences? I took advantage of the 4 bonus TYPs per $ earlier in the year so wonder if that is limiting my options for future retention bonuses.

Thanks!

I called in an attempt for Citi to wave the annual fee for my Citi AAdvantage Visa at the end of August, and it was granted.... well it was granted in the form of a $85 fee credit, but with annual fee being due in September it canceled the $85 charge that posted.

Citi also gave me a statement credit in July for my Citi AAdvantage Mastercard.

Yes, I realize I could attempt to churn, but at this time don't want to have my credit score take a hit.

Citi AA business MC - offered 10K miles bonus if I spent $5K in 6 months.

--> $5k spend turns into 15k miles.

Citi Premier Pass NO annual fee card. About 6 months ago:
Offered 3500 points if I purchase $250 dollars within 90 days.
Accepted. Earned.

Called them last week, no similar promo. They cited the last retention and offered to lower my purchase rate APR, but no additional TYP.

Just called to cancel my Citi AA MC card, was offered either
1. 2miles/$ for the next 3 months up to 5000 bonus miles and $50 account credit
or
2. 3000 miles.

Took the first option.

This is a bit off topic but related to bonuses. Citi posted a $50 "category spend bonus" on my current AA MC statement. Does anyone know what that is?

PPE - no fee version (there was a brief window 2 years ago it was offered no fee).

initial offer 3500 pt for $350 spent in 3 months. Turned it down.

took some back and forth negotiation, second offer 3pt per $ spent, up to 6 months with annual cap of 200K TYPs reset. The extra 2pt also applies to the EDS spending which earns 2pt to begin with.

This would be the offer to seek if you have lots of flight pts to unlock.

I assume this offer is only available for Citi Rewards cards (TYP, not AA miles), right?
