Has Citi's system changed? I just tried finding a ticket from ORD to JNB through the ThankYouNetwork website and got weird fares of around 180,000. Not nice round numbers though. Thought that seemed odd, so I plugged in my standard US to Asia routes which I usually get for 60,000 points. Oddly enough, I got back costs of 126,000 to 220,000 some odd miles. It's as if the point costs reflected the actual tickets prices in pennies.
When did they switch to this system? I was thinking I'd be able to get the ORD to JNB flight for 80,000 or ORD to NGO for 60,000. Is this just because I was going through the ThankYou network website? Before, I just always called them directly for reservations.

You have to call them on the phone to use the fixed point flight option, you were looking at the variable point option which basically redeems the points at a penny a piece.

This morning I booked a flight DTW-SLC for 25000 TY points plus taxes
The rep has heard about point changes but not about dollar limits. In any case they didn't apply today because the NW receipt lists the base fare as $1007.
I also burned most of my remaining TY points for 2 X 60000 point tickets DTW-EZE in January. I suspect that once they start down this slope, TY points will be like airline FF miles and devalue with time.

Thread Topic Reminder
Moderator hat on
Just a reminder, this thread topic is about people's success and failures with the actual booking of airline awards as part of the Thank You Rewards Network. The discussion of the recently announced devaluation can be found here:

Posts in the TYN/Airline redemption thread that pertained specifically to the devaluation have been moved to the above thread in chronological order.
Please try to keep the two threads separate for future clarity. Thanks!

Are TYP Fixed redemptions booked in a regular fare class?
I was wondering if these are just booked in regular coach or business fare classes. Thanks!

Expedia purchases the award tickets for Thank You redemptions, they are ordinary tickets, the same as you might purchase with money. In principle there is nothing to prevent Expedia from using a fareclass that does not earn miles or is otherwise restricted, but this has not been reported often.

That is true. I wasn't aware of this. I redeemed TY points for an international flight on Korean airline thinking that I could transfer those miles to delta. However, the inventory that expedia had at that time for my flight was in class Q. With this class, I can only earn 70% of miles on Korean but I cannot transfer them to delta at all. So be careful.. just check your booking class before making a reservation. It should be okay if your flight is with US-based airlines...
