Application link for the Shop Your Way (SYW) MasterCard is HERE.

Accumulating points, expiration, and redemptions:
You can accumulate SYW points in some of the following methods:
  • Bonus offers sent to your email (ie: Spend $750 on Online and get 200,000 SYW Bonus points)
  • Regular spend - categories: 5% in gas, 3% in grocery/restaurants, 2% in SYW Merchants, 1% everywhere else
  • "Missions" in the SYW App (iPhone/Android)
Expiration of points:
Not all points have the same expiration timeframe. Some bonus/incentive points expire in 30 days or less. Most are 1 year. You can check in the SYW app, or the shopyourway.com website. Make sure to redeem the points before they expire!!!!

Redemptions:
You can only redeem $200 worth per day. So if you redeem for a $200 GC, you have to wait until the next day to make another redemption of any amount.

Credit Line Increases
This is very odd, but according to the Chatbot on the website:
Q. When requesting a credit limit increase, is the credit inquiry a hard or soft credit inquiry?
A. Unfortunately, until we process the request, there isn't a way for us to know if a credit line increase request will be a soft or hard hit on your credit report. For this reason, we have to receive your permission to pull a copy of your credit report before we process the increase request. If you process the request online, you will see a message stating "By submitting this form, you authorize Citibank, N.A. to obtain your credit report."

To request an increase online:
In order to request an increase, you will need to go to your Credit Home page, and find Available Credit at the top of the page. Then, click on the link that says Request Increase to begin the process.

From somewhere else I saw the pump codes differently than the store.

pump codes as gas

stores with gas pumps code as vehicle services

unsure what standalone 711 codes as. I would not be surprised if standalone 711 with no gas code as grocery or XXX merchant store

now afaict, nothing posts when you hit the first tier, and maybe not the second tier either. So you really only know after the month is over (and may miss the bonus if in fact it didn't count).
Good points! Once the month is over, do they tell you how close you were?

You should be able to know quickly if it counts based on the number of SYW points you received. If you purchase a $500 VGC at 7-11 and get 25,000 points you should be confident it will count towards the GGR promo. I haven’t hit my $2k spend yet, I wonder if anyone who has hit $2k spend in January has gotten their $200 statement credit. The 7-11 by me does not have gas, and I have purchased $500 VGC there for years towards the GGR promotion without issue. It makes more sense to buy a VGC at 5% back with the $4.95 fee and then use the GC at grocery stores than to just spend at grocery stores. Although buying groceries online (even for curbside pick up) will double as GGR spend and online spend if you have two simultaneous promos going.

Thanks jags86! Is there a way to test what counts as online by using small purchases? I know I'll fail to meet the goal this month, but I'd like to test some things for the future.

Hit $1k+ on 01/06 and $2K+ on 01/12, so far, no $100 or $200 yet. Statement is closed on 01/21 and we shall see.

The only sure fire way to test a transaction for online is to make a singular transaction for $X right at the beginning of the promo and then wait for the mid promo email progress update to see if it tracked.

By me shopping for groceries online has always triggered the bonus so I havent done much testing.

I think jags is right that some 7-11 will post as gas even for in-store purchases w/o gas pumps. Found this comment about it on https://www.doctorofcredit.com/does-...omment-1347923

Thanks again! Does that still work? This comment made me nervous. https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/35918809-post60.html

yeah , that comment was in the context of the GGR promo. I don't think I ever got progress emails for that one.

For the online case, I'd get an email with a subject like "Congratulations! Youre closer to earning your $80 statement credit" with a balance every so often, so you could deduce what worked. The first usually arrived on the 20th, so only covered a 1-2 days' of purchases.

I see that some of you are buying Visa gift cards. Do you have suggestions about which types of Visa gift card are mostly likely to be accepted at various places? I'm mostly interested in PayPal and/or Venmo. Not trying to MS, I just want to pay bills on PayPal bill pay.

But if you know other stuff, I'm sure that would help others. I don't often see a comparison of different types of gift card and their different features. Maybe they all work the same so my question is pointless, I'm not sure. But I was thinking there might be differences for the 3 reasons below.

I could be wrong, but here are some things I think I know:
  1. Some gift cards have a billing address associated with them and some do not. Sometimes they do not but you can add a billing address to them later. The ones with billing addresses tend to get accepted at more places.
  2. Reloadable and non-reloadable cards are treated differently. I think everyone here is talking about non-reloadable.
  3. I've only ever used Amex and Vanilla Visa, and I had a lot of issues with those. For example, PayPal says that you can add prepaid gift cards to your account, but my Vanilla and Amex cards were always rejected. This random redditor says that Vanilla specifically banned PayPal, so maybe others do not (or they don't know what they're talking about). Giftcards.com also says that they don't allow this.

Okay, I've been trying to put together a list. Here's where I'm at so far, what do y'all think? Do you have any additions/corrections? Any thoughts on the transaction volume that would make PayPal suspicious?

Disclaimers: I'm guessing that this sort of thing changes quickly, so any information here could be outdated. I'm no expert, but to me it seems like we are on the way to a world where nothing works. It is dangerous to add too many cards to PayPal in a short time.

So far I only know cards that do not work.Honestly after doing this research, I'm getting kind of scared. Not scared of my card not working, but scared of PayPal getting mad at me for using too many gift cards to pay my bills on bill pay. Does anyone have perspective on this?

Have you researched any of this in Flyertalk's Manufactured Spending forum? You do not need to be "manufacturing" spend to be using many of the same resources. I would start here: All things Paypal (2017-onwards)
