Product change to Double Cash and Custom Cash not available.

I just called into Citi, trying to convert a MIleUp card to Double Cash. Rep said the conversion isn't available, and told me to try again in a month. Tried a different rep as well as a different citi card, no dice.

Does anyone know if Citi periodically remove certain cards from the list of available product change options? Or could it be a one-time thing, because of upcoming changes to the Double Cash card's reward rules?

The ability to PC has always been sporadic. So the Reps in this case are right.

I had a similar issue. I've had Premier card forever (from when you got points for miles you flew in addition to spend). I had kept it because I had a ton of points and was trying to use up points with travel (1.25x). When that went away, I decided it was time to cash out the points and just switch to double cash (should have done years ago). I didn't even bother to try to convert it since I'd had the same issue as OP in the past (they said you couldn't convert point card to a cash card). So, I just opened a new double cash account and moved all my spending over. When I called to close the Premier and ask if they could shift my credit limit to the Double Cash card (which was just 20% of the Premier), I was told they can't shift credit limits and haven't for years. They wanted to do anything to not get me to close the Premier (which I thought was strange since I was staying with Citi, just another card). I wasn't excited to close it without moving the credit limit for credit score purposes. When I told them I didn't want the annual fee, they suggested converting it to another card (including Double Cash). I explained I had already just opened another account and if they could just transfer the credit limit, I'd be set. Nope, they wouldn't do that. They ended up converting my account to another double cash card (with new number).

Now I have 2 double cash cards, one with a lower limit that I just memorized my account number for and another with a higher credit limit. I think I'm sticking with the one I just memorized and sticking the other in a drawer. Ridiculous.

So, you may have luck now that they are all earning ThankYou points to convert.

Citi securitizes credit card lines of credit. Changing the credit limit of an account that is in process of being sold, or was recently sold, is apparently a problem.

I just encountered this issue trying to convert a Dividend card into a Double Cash. I hate rotating categories and want TYP instead.

Alas, they only offered Rewards+. No thanks.

How recent is you MileUp card? You didn't say.

Banks typically cannot convert cards to a different one until at least a year after you've had the previous one.

And then some banks don't let you convert from a partner card to a different partners card or to a generic card. The MileUp is an AA card, right? So maybe Citi is one of those banks, I'm not sure.

A number of reports on Reddit from the past few days that Citi is not allowing product changes to the Customized Cash card; unclear whether this is a new policy or a temporary thing

Oh, yes. They also rejected Custom Cash for my Dividend. It was Rewards+ or nothing.

Dividend is a solid card, you wait until a good 5% category, max it out in one quarter to earn $300 CB, and put the card away until next year.

Most of the Citi cards can be PC'ed to AA, Costco, ThankYou. But no Custom Cash or Double Cash.

I understand why Citi blocks product changes to Custom Cash, but not to Double Cash.

There're people who MS / buy items for resale on DC cards, so while one could certainly cycle their CL a somewhat safer approach would be multiple DC cards.

What do you mean? ThankYou is a points program, not a specific card. Custom Cash is a ThankYou points card, as is Double Cash nowadays, and there are other ThankYou points cards.
