Grocery stores. (mastercards don't work at Costco...)
Restaurants. (already have 4% cashback savor card and spend more than $500 in this category irregularly)
Gas stations. (have an electric car [see below], the gas-guzzling truck stays parked, and use a visa to fill up at Costco)
Streaming services. (if you spend $500 month on netflix, disney, hulu, hbo, you have other problems than cashback???)
Drugstores. (hsa/fsa ...)
Home improvement stores. (Great backup category for when I get a project)
Fitness clubs. (wow, even equinox isn't $500 a month, troll category to make the list look big citi?)
Select travel. (spend more than $500 but not every month, ticket prices vary so much rather use a better travel reward card).
Live entertainment. (maybe if I purchased broadway/concert tickets each month, but I already get 4% on my savor in this category which I don't use)
Select transit.(DING DING - we have a winner!) Here is what I found - **Select transit is defined as car rentals, ferries, commuter railways, subways, taxis/limousines/car services, passenger railways, bridge and road tolls, parking lots/garages, bus lines and motor home and recreational vehicle rentals. It also includes merchants that sell electricity for charging an electric vehicle.
So I easily spend a few hundred dollars on rental cars every other month (probably more now that you can't get a rental car). I'm spending at least $25 monthly on bridge and highway tolls. Now that it's safe to ride in an Uber/Lyft to the airport and short trips another $100 month. Finally, instead of gas, my supercharger bill can run $50 a month or so for the electric car. Plus this would come in handy on the occasional rail, subway, mass transit trip and I could pretty easily get close to the $500 without going over/under. I'll update flyertalk after a few months of use to confirm they actually pay these categories.
Well, it will be like a rotating card for me once I get it, because the only thing I semi-regularly do that no other card covers at all is parking lots/garages (mostly at the airport, I don't use Uber). (I already have 4x on restaurants and groceries with my Amex Gold.) Until recently my Citi Premier card covered that plus "travel", but those are separate categories here. I only use use Citi Premier for hotels where I don't already have a hotel program credit card, but I get 3x on hotels there whereas I'd get 5x here. But if I used it for one $115 hotel in the same month I had $125 parking, I'd get 5x on the $125 and only 1x on the $115. So I will have to keep track of the billing cycles when I'm flying and keep it to parking those billing cycles (and keep hotels on the Premier during those Custom Cash billing cycles), and then those billing cycles where I don't have parking I can use it for hotels to get 5x instead of just 3x TYP.

But that's even more frequent juggling of cards than with quarterly rotating categories such as at Chase Freedom and Discover.

FYI apparently Walmart Neighborhood Market does not qualify for the 5% grocery category.

Yes, this has been true for ALL Citibank CC's. Sometimes CS agents would make (false) statements to the contrary. But the fine print has been consistent: WNM, Target, etc will not count under the grocery category.

A lot of cards say this but in practice, Walmart Neighborhood Markets (meaning the stand-alone, Walmart branded grocery stores) often code differently from Walmart Supercenters.

Interestingly, the Walmart Neighborhood Market's gas dispenser did count for gas bonus on the Premier. I'll need to test grocery purchases there, but I think they have worked in the past.

It varies between issuing banks. All AmEx cards consider WNM charges to be groceries, but that will change nothing for Citibank.

Any idea what happens if you spend exactly $250.00 in two separate categories?

I expect Citi would pay the bonus on $250.

Citibank shall have the sole right to determine the highest spend category each billing cycle and their decision will be final. Once we identify the highest spend category for a billing cycle, it will not be changed, even if purchases from that category are returned in a later billing cycle.

I'm considering this card as a way to maximize travel spend, specifically cruises. Now that the Premier no longer gives 3x for cruises (and Prestige no longer being available), my only way to get more than 2x on cruise spend is via CSR - but I'm strongly considering downgrading that card due to the AF hike. The cruises I usually take usually require a deposit of $250-450 per person, after which it would be easy to pay $500/month until the cruise is payed for (or less if I put other travel expenses on this card in a particular month). Also, it's not a big deal if I don't use the card in some months given that the card has no AF.

For now I am debating between applying for this card now/soon or waiting until next year (24+ months after my last TYP bonus) and applying for another Premier (followed by PCing my current Premier to Custom). Thoughts/ideas on any of this would be appreciated!

Premier still offers 3X for transactions made with Travel Agencies. How do you book your cruises?

Three ThankYou Points for each $1 spent on purchases at airlines, hotels, and travel agencies.

I book through a travel agent, but the billing is always through the cruise line. Looks like it would be worthwhile for me to make a small payment on one of my upcoming cruises with Premier and see how it is categorized. Thanks for the idea.

So can you use each card in a different 5x category and get 5x in two different categories with your 2 Custom Cash cards?

Because that's the limitation with 1 Custom Cash card, if you use it in two different 5x categories in a given billing cycle, you only get 5x in the category you use the most that billing cycle, and a lousy 1x in the other category you use second-most that billing cycle. So it'd be interesting if having 2 Custom Cash cards can work around this limitation.

I'll let you know when my statement closes to see if it works.
