Transfer bonuses

I'm surprised there aren't any transfer bonuses right now, since I'd assume airlines would want to sell more miles to book some revenue and lock in potential future bookings with points. I've got 67k TR points that I'm not sure what to do with since all my 5 upcoming trips iare already paid for from delayed/rescheduled trips, the 25% bonus is ending for airline tickets and I have lots of Hilton points to burn for upcoming hotel bookings. Was considering a Virgin Atlantic transfer but waiting for a transfer bonus.

Well, airline miles are the most endangered species right now. Some airlines have died and the value of miles are questionable. Citi TY is still a hard currency since you can always redeem it at 1.2 cpps. As good as cash if you ever travel. And Citi will unlikely file bankruptcy like airlines.

On one hand, I am a little concerned about the lack of transfer bonuses so far this year with Citi. Last year Citi had 6 transfer bonuses, and in May started their third. When Citi allowed the Double Cash earnings to be converted to TYP, most people thought it brought extra value to the TYP program (easier to accumulate points on everyday spend). I wondered whether there would be a devaluation to balance it out. Was slowing down or stopping transfer bonuses a subtle way to do devalue the program?

At the same time, given the current pandemic, if Citi were to offer a transfer bonus right now, I think people would ask "why now?". Most people are hesitant to speculatively transfer points, though I have when transfer bonuses are offered to the right program. All airlines are struggling right now, but if you look at the programs Citi has offered bonuses to, some (Avianca and Virgin Atlantic) are particularly at risk. I think people would be hesitant to transfer to these (even if the programs are technically separate entities to the airlines).

Are you looking to cancel the Premier or Prestige? For the Premier, there have been some great retention offers. I was considering dropping mine, but was offered $95 after $95 spent, basically waiving the annual fee.

Good to know. I've got the mid-tier Premier. So we shall see if there is any offers when my annual fee comes due. Also have been annoyed with Citi as I put my ski pass on it, got coded as "Entertainment" online statement but still only got 1x earning, so had to call twice to get it resolved.

Did any transfer bonuses come up this year? Was still thinking of a Citi --> VS --> Hilton transfer soon.
