30K Citi Checking Offer - Any Success? - Denied Promotion Looking for Recourse
Without going into great detail I noticed an offer on AA.com. 30K mi if you open a checking account with Citi, download the app, and spend $400 on the debit card within 60 days of account opening. I clicked the link from AA.com completed the steps and got an email requesting a utility or CC bill within a few days. Called them, pointed out that I already have a relationship with the bank as I have a Citi AAdavantage Exec card. They said it doesn't matter - so on FOUR separate occasions I sent the documents through email per their request and every time they said to call back in a week only to be told "they never got it." Finally in late April, I visited a branch with the documents. They had to call Citi and fax it for me. I just called Citi to check on the status as they told me it takes 2.5 weeks to process, and they said the account was canceled because the document was over 30 days old by the time they were able to review it. I escalated this to a manager who agreed they were wrong but then changed her story to the fact that my apartment number on the app was "404" but the apt number on my utility bill is "APT 404" therefore the whole application was canceled and this cannot be undone.
Wondering if anyone else was successfully able to complete this promotion, as it seemed to only exist on the site for a few days and no one at Citibank is even aware of the promotion. Also wondering if I could do anything as a recourse i.e. BBB, watchdog sites etc as it seems really odd that they made this essentially impossible to do.

Some issues are better addressed offline. You might try going back to the branch where they faxed the document and making a clear case there.
