Just chat'd to close an old account I finished the second set of $3k spend on and miles were issued. Received this response.

"I do see that, your account is under review, let me share the direct number of the Account Specialist, please call them right away, they will go ahead and close your card right away for you."

Think this is a script to try to get me to call in and listen to a spiel about keeping it open or would someone really tell me my account is under review via chat? I said I have no desire to call in and they closed my account for me anyway.

"I have no problem with Citi but I am not flying American Airlines as much as I thought I would."

100% success for me in closing over chat with one sentence.

I just told them I am no longer using the card.

First month my dog hasn't received an email offer for 50/2500 (with invitation code, no 24-month language).

1/11: 50/2500
2/11: 50/2500
3/6: 50/2500
4/6: no credit card offers
4/11: no credit card offers as of 7:50 p.m. ET

Email offers? How do you get targeted for those? My household has only gotten physical mail.

Open a new account with a new email address. I got my first emailed mailer the same month.

Having said that, I haven't gotten one for this month yet. They arrived on the 11th of Jan and Feb, and the 6th of March. Here's hoping they are just delayed a day or two for April...

I got a 3K/60K mailer and did a chat session to ask for a match to the 75K offer I saw online. Usually works. Chat gut said, we'll get back to you. Got a snail mail back saying that Citi does not know about the offer I'm speaking of, but I can send a copy of the offer and they'll consider it.
Interesting, first time denial.

ALSO: Blogs like this never help the nice Flyertalk community we have going on: A Public Love Letter to Citi and Thank You Program ? TravelinPoints

I mean, come on. A "legitimate" travel blogger telling people: "Don’t have a mailer? Signup your dog, cat, fish, etc to a AA account and wait." These guys are worse that the Reddit millenials.

You're upset about something that was posted nearly a year ago?

I'm upset that a blogger is telling people to sign up their fish for a Aadvantage membership. Date is irrelevant.

PHONE VERIFICATION follow-up / DPs:

I called back in to the application status / recon line the day after they said they would mail me out a letter with the verification code.

BUT this time, I called from my cell #, that they did NOT have on file/could not verify. They checked their notes, then asked if they could call me on the landline that is listed on the current Citi account, and I said yes. While still on the line on my cell line, the rep spawned a call to my landline, with Inbound Caller ID of "CBC Companies" with a 614 area code. I answered it, and an automated 5-digit code was announced. Once I gave this code the Citi rep, I was verified, and they approved my account. I was told to disregard the "need to verify you" letter in the mail that was already sent.

SO, it is good to have two phone lines associated with your name to have them to be able to verify you on. Best to keep the line free, that is listed on the account for them to call you back on!

Just completed another app where I had to go through the Phone Verification. I called in, they verified that I applied and some personal details and then put me on hold. They came back and said they would have to send a code in the mail to complete the application (did not even offer verifying phone number, maybe because it is still suspended and they may have seen that in their check on their end). I asked if there was any other way to verify since I won't be at that address for a few weeks, I mentioned I had a work number that I included on the application. She said there was no number (which is weird, I 100% included one), but happily added it to my application and sent the code to that number. Same situation as you, from "CBC Companies" and announced a 5-digit code. I gave the code to the rep and they completed the application.

So my take is, if you're really desperate to approve the application and don't want to wait 3-4 days for the letter, ask to add an alternate number to verify you. If they say no, thank them and tell them you will wait for the snail mail. Then HUCA and see if the next rep can verify you with an alternate number.

I suppose the blog gets more eyeballs than FT, Reddit, etc, but I found out about the mailer last name offer system from reading a FT thread. I was just trying to figure out the strategy on when/how to apply for a Citi AA card and if I could double dip personal and biz. I feel you though, those of us playing the game don't want this broadcast so it becomes too popular, but word gets around. People who get into the churning game are going to find out sooner or later that Citi AA miles is the last game in town for many of us well over 5/24.

Agreed, agreed. I too learned it on FT, and I'm sure at first we both studied the wiki and read lots of posts to ensure we're doing it right. The benefit of FT is really good advice from an informed community.

If the Citi-mailer-churn is every shut down, it won't be because of FT people. It will be because of the Fish blogger and the Reddit folks who re-post that stuff.

Been playing the mailer game for personal cards for a while but what thinking of trying a business app again due to all the varied success of match requests. My last business closure was 12/28/2015, any recent data points supporting the wiki "opened or closed a similar (i.e. personal or business) card in the previous 24 months" (fearing the day it will be 24 months per ss#)?

Thanks!!!
