Smile [Hong Kong] Avios VS Asia Miles

Hi guys, I am from Hong Kong and new to this forum.

Recently, I've heard that Citi has launched some promotion plans on Avios. They claimed that this is easier to earn air ticket than Asia Miles. Anyone knows if it is true? Which credit card should I use if I wanna turn to Avios?

Thank you very much!!

This sounds as if it refers to the Citi PremierMiles card:

Those street promoters...My answer is mostly no.

It is true that:

1. For the same award ticket, it will cost less using Avios rather than AM.

2. BAEC may have a better award inventory than AM itself (historically, it is easier to redeem CX tickets from partner rather than from CX's owned AM).

However:

1. There are only 2 cards that earn Avios in Hong Kong - Citi PremierMiles and Dah Sing BA Platinum Card. Dah Sing is actually a better card excluding the bonus, as Dah Sing has a better earning rate ($6 vs. $8) and no annual fee for at least 3 years.

AFAIK - Citi PremierMiles does not waive first-year annual fee.

2. Unlike AM (which you can earn from almost every card issuers in Hong Kong), there are only 2 cards that earn Avios in Hong Kong. It basically means that your option is pretty much limited.

percysmith, a FTer, is very knowledgeable in Hong Kong cards and very active in both FT and HongKongCard.com. You should talk to him and see what he thinks.
