Citi retention offer reports (All cards) [2016-2017]

This might be too greedy... Is it possible to get two rounds of retention offers within a year for the same card? Any data points please!

I have been told you can get them every 6 months and that seems to have worked for me in the past when I tried. I have too many cards presently to try to max out retention offers and remain sane . . . ish.

Just wondering which card did you get to have 2 rounds retention within 1 year...? Are they same offer?

I just finished citi prestige offer for the past 6 months. I am about to call on my citi TY premier. I know it wont hurt to ask about prestige as well but afraid that they might say I already finished one on prestige.... I am also wondering if the 6 month mark restart on the exact day I signed it up for the spending offer or should I wait until next month.

Second Prestige Offer

Does anyone have any experience getting a second retention offer in the same year the card was opened? I just finished the 4x groceries offer and would like the 4x travel as I have a good bit of travel early next year.

I opened in the card in June and have put about 20K in spending in six months. Trying not to sound greedy, but if Citi will give it to me I'll take it.

I am also wondering the same thing. Also interested in anything similar not just prestige.

I've got a calendar reminder set for mid-February to call Citi for another retention offer(6months after the first one.) Would love a data point if calling in for a second works, you should call now!

Hmm, just tried calling and the rep went straight for the cancellation with almost no hesitation. Had to stop her in the middle. Asked if there were any retention offers and she just listed the normal spend bonuses and mentioned the CitiGold relationship bonus. Nada.

Wondering if I should call the same number again or try the Premier line instead.

Same here -- how are people getting transferred? In the past, you mention cancel and they will say "let me transfer you to an account specialist" or something like that. This is the third card I've tried calling for in the last month, and all three times they are saying they will go ahead and cancel right now if I wish, or downgrade to a bronze. I can't get transferred for jack!

I got the prestige card in June but didn't start the grocery offer until September. If the six month rule is accurate, I've still got a couple more months.

I had previously called to waive my fee and was told there were no offers with my card. The best I could get was 1000 courtesy miles. I tried again and they shut me down saying I already got those courtesy miles.

Yesterday was my lucky day.

I asked and was told nothing they could do. But then she mentioned that magic word "close". I got nervous as I didn't want to close the account when I realized she was guiding me so I could be connected to retentions. The woman in retrntions gave me a $95 statement credit with a $95 purchase. I also got 1000 bonus miles with $1000 purchase for 16 statement periods.

She asked if I had any other cards. I was able to get a $50 statement credit with a $50 purchase. The fee isn't due till March. I asked if there was any other bonus offers and she said cant do now. But call back another time!

If you you are not getting transferred to the account specialist, and know which offer you want and available to your type of card. You can call them and ask for it. Just tell them, "I am calling back to get the offer".

Like others, I called twice and the woman said that my AA platinum account was not eligible to be transferred to an account specialist after I asked to cancel? And even when I proceeded without any offers they wouldn't move any of the credit line to my ThankYou Preferred card. This is the only time/bank I've ever experienced this with and I'm a CitiGold member. This is awful.

Citi prestige- retention for new cardholder?

So I opened my card in November-ish (not actually sure of the date, it took citi, bless their hearts, a month to verify my ID and send the card after I applied) and have completed one billing cycle. Funded citigold and put about +/- $1000 in regular spend on the card so far in addition to the $15k citigold funding. Haven't used or received the sign-up bonus points.

I want that +4pts on groceries/pharmacy. Is it wise for me to call up once they get around to posting the AF and fish for retention offers, or would it be safer to wait until they've actually given me and/or I've actually used up the 115k+ TYP I expect them to eventually send my way?

osmantrex Jan 5, 2016 3:05 pm

Called in yesterday to the Premier line. Said I wanted to talk to someone about canceling either my Premier or Prestige- rep seemed hesitant to transfer me to an account specialist.

Once I got on with the account specialist he asked if I was interested in lowered rates or points. Ended up getting 5k TYP and $50 statement credit after $1,000 spend in six months. Asked if there were any similar offers for my Prestige. Took a lot of going through other offers but finally got to the 4x extra on grocery, gas, and drug- same offer others had posted about.

I've had the Premier since late August and the Prestige for just a little over a month. I'm thinking of calling for the Premier now. What are your opinions on whether Citi will be less likely to give an offer (and more likely to let you cancel) if I already have another TYP card (in this case, the Prestige)?

beckshrules Jan 5, 2016 3:57 pm

Had the Premier card for less than 6 months. Called in and was offered 5k points for 1k spend in 6 months.
