FAQ on the Costco Anywhere Visa card: Your Costco Credit Card Account is Being Replaced by Citi

Transition date was June 20, 2016.

- 4% back on gas (up to $7k per year) (Gas at supermarket branded gas stations and warehouse gas stations other than Costco does not qualify.)
- 3% back on travel & dining
- 2% back at Costco and Costco.com
- 1% back elsewhere

From the Citi Costco Site:
Will my Costco Anywhere Card have foreign purchase transaction fees?
Yes. A fee of 3% of the amount of the transaction in US Dollars will be applied to purchases made in a currency other than US Dollars.
There are no foreign transaction fees for purchases made at Costco warehouses worldwide when you pay with your new Costco Anywhere Card.
Please note: not all international Costco warehouse locations accept Visa cards.

Announced 3/1/2018: There will be no foreign purchase transaction fees.

Extended warranty benefit removed for purchases after January 21, 2023.

I am probably going to test it next week with a small GC. Chase's response was basically a non response-they cannot/will not confirm that an online purchase will qualify

Thanks

Thanks everyone for answering my questions regarding Costco cash reward. I guess we can still work around to get the good earnings on other cards, in conjunction with the Costco card, with some effort. You guys are pros!

FYI, I just called the citibank customer service number ((866) 241-8684), and I was told that there will be a 3% Foreign Transaction Fee on this card. I'll update the Wiki.

Thanks! No real surprise though, I don't know of any credit card that is fee free, outside the PenFed Visa, that has no FTF

Per here:

http://newsroom.mastercard.com/press...-relationship/

Specifically:

...Citi will begin aligning the company’s consumer proprietary credit and debit portfolios to the MasterCard network in 2015...
So Citi is supposed to switch over to MC. But again - when Citi screws up the ATM card conversion, I will have no idea when Citi can get this to work.

I still have not seen any indication that the alignment applies to discontinued products. Just today I received a replacement AT&T business credit card which is approaching expiration. It earns ThankYou Rewards and remains on VISA network.

Interesting.

My AT&T Universal Card, a personal VISA card product, expires later this year. I opened the account in 1990 and retain the card for its history and generous credit limit. Otherwise, it's useless: no AF but 3% FTF, no EMV, ridiculous Citi "Easy Deals" points, and AT&T calling card benefits that ceased to be valuable about 10-15 years back. A real anachronism! I was hoping to consolidate the account history onto the new Costco card when it's issued. We'll see how that works.

I am not surprised that you see no indication.

In fact, while my Citibank ATM card is EMV-equipped, the rest of my family are still using one without the EMV chip. This gives me a strong indication that Citi falls behind on everything.

Cobranded products are not affected per the press statement:

...Citi will continue to work with other networks, including on consumer co-brands and commercial cards.

We may have lost sight of the reason for this detour.

I was reacting to this statement by pointing out that I have two VISA cards issued by Citi which could be used at Costco, and both earn ThankYou Rewards. Neither you nor I know if Citi will eventually convert these discontinued products from VISA to MasterCard, but it seems improbable (to me) because they allow such products to die by attrition.

They just renewed my AT&T card on VISA, and they will have another opportunity to show their intentions when my Forward card expires in September.

I do agree that it is improbable that they will issue any new ThankYou Rewards products on VISA network.

I agree that we don't know. But per the statement, it (Visa>MC) should happen.

AT&T card is a cobranded product, which is exempted. I don't know how Citi will do with Forward, given that I have one and impacted by the devaluation as well.

The reason for the exemption is to allow Citi to issue cards for partners who have their own contract with VISA (or American Express). AT&T apparently does not have a network contract. The current AT&T co-branded cards are issued on MasterCard network.

I also used to have ATT universal card in 1993 but it was a Mastercard. I did a few product changes until it's a citi double cash card. Its my oldest card.
