Which websites qualify for 3X points?

3 ThankYou Points for each $1 spent on purchases made at eligible retail (including department store websites, specialty store websites, warehouse store websites and boutique websites) and travel websites (including online travel agencies, and hotel and airline websites).

3 ThankYou Points for each $1 spent on products and services purchased directly from AT&T, including payment of monthly phone, cable or internet bills.

You'll earn an Anniversary Bonus of 10,000 ThankYou Points after you spend $10,000 in purchases in the prior cardmembership year.

Special note about eBay and PayPal - varies widely as to whether the bonus points are awarded. It seems to vary depending on merchant with no real discernible pattern.

Certain Non-Qualifying Purchases. You won’t earn 3X Points for purchases of and payments for medical services, insurance, taxes and government services, real estate, real estate rentals, purchases or reloading of prepaid or gift cards, education, charities and utilities.
You won’t earn 3X Points for purchases from independent wireless dealers, non-AT&T-owned stores, or AT&T resellers unless you are paying for an AT&T service, such as your phone, cable or internet.
(Effective 9/22/2019)

All payments coding as online are hit and miss. Sometimes it codes as online, sometimes it doesn't. YMMV.

As for flights, I'm using prestige as it has saved my butt a few times with insurances. Hotels for prestige as well (4th night). Car rentals, united card (pretty much the same as CSR), but not dropping the united card due to the XN space. For dining abroad, yes It's only 2x on prestige, but within the US buying dining everywhere cards at 5x (minus 2.5% fee) or 0% fee during OM promos is either on par or better than CSR, usually stock up during promos anyhow so its pure 5x+ then (but another card to carry). I have 4 $450 cards and I think CSR is 4th behind Ritz, prestige, and biz plat. If I could give my CSR priority pass to someone else I would keep it at $150.

As far as the citi premier card, is that 1.25 cents per point pretty much the same deal as 1.5 cpp thru the chase portal, or do you redeem it against charges? For me, since singapore now has online booking, and a few useful redemption options, and avianca has 7.5k ow within alot of the USA and other useful redemptions, I'd say I'm happy to transfer them instead of cash in at 1.25 cpp. (You can buy avianca points usually for 1.5 cpp but sometimes as low as 1.32 or so). I do alot of last minute travel so good points options for that is important to me (star alliance mostly) But to each their own. I have a while to think about this (CSR), but so far I think its chopped.

So for me the at&t card is at minimum 3x avianca points for the 3x category. Appreciate your insight however.
I do you Prestige + Premier + AT&T combination to book hotels at 4 night batches for 1.667cpp redemption value. Good tip on Avianca though.

I'm sure I'm asking a dumb question, but how does that work?

The AT&T card isn't necessary to achieve this, but it is a great way to accumulate points quickly. I disagree with the math and consider it still just 1.25cpp using Premier, but here's the argument: Up to 1.67 cents per point value from ThankYou points - Frequent Miler

Apologies if this has already been posted, I didn't see a clear answer when searching the thread.

My TY Premier is up for renewal soon, and I want to get rid of it (I have a Prestige), but I don't have a good transfer target for my TYP yet. The Access More is also a TYP card, right? So am I safe in assuming that I can PC my TY Premier to the Access More without losing my TYP?

I've also wanted this card for a while for the retail 3x, so that would be a huge win for me if that's true.

i disagree with the math as well. As in that case $1.25 would magically become $1.67 as well. Not a terrible use if you are flush with TYP however. I dont think i would go out of my way to have this option, but the current bonus is 50k, so now would be the time if one wanted this option.

you should be able to combine presige and premier points into a central TYP acct, then PC to att+ card without losing any points. Confirm with the phone rep though as sometimes there are 60/90 day cutoffs if points are considered transferred. I have only ever transferred to singapore before (i did this prior to calling retention), but Avianca is also compelling, at least for intra-usa trips. Also note singapore points can now be used online for united and many partners. The one negative to singapore is points expire after 3 yrs regardless of activity.

Att+ and prestige is a solid combo though.

My TY Premier is up for renewal soon, and I want to get rid of it (I have a Prestige), but I don't have a good transfer target for my TYP yet. The Access More is also a TYP card, right? So am I safe in assuming that I can PC my TY Premier to the Access More without losing my TYP?
No, the Access cards earns TYP, but it isn't in the TYP product family. It's in the AT&T product family.

So it's not clear whether your TYP points would be preserved.

The only standpoints I know of preserving TYP points after product converting from Premier or Prestige is to Preferreed, not to AT&T cards.

Not true.

After any TYP card is closed, its points go "poof" after 60 days. See this thread for details:

https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/citi...derations.html

So unless product converting from TYP Premier to AT&T Access More preserves the TYP points and keeps them from expiring, transferring them to the Premier won't help. That's because (as explained in the linked thread), each TYP point you have keeps track of where it was earned (its "sponsor" account), even after transferring, and if that "sponsor" account no longer exists, those points will soon disappear, no matter where they were transferred.

And so, while we have datapoints that product converting from TYP Premier to TYP Preferred keeps the points from expiring, I'm not aware of any datapoints on product conversions from TYP Premier (or Prestige) to AT&T Access More (or Access no-AF).

And since TYP Premier and AT&T Access More are officially in different Citi "families", despite both earning TYP points, it should not be assumed that just because product converting from TYP Premier (or Prestige) to Preferred preserves the TYP points, that product converting to an AT&T card would also do that. That would have to proven through datapoints. (Citi agents tell us meaningless untruths all too often, so I wouldn't trust anything Citi agents tell anyone about this. Only trust datapoints.)

OP has citi prestige also, so OP is set once he/she gets new points from att+ for transfers, he/she should just make a transfer within 60 days (per the cutoff I mentioned, and you have confirmed) from the "premier points." OP just needs to pick a transfer partner, depending on travel patterns, that could be one of a few. Not sure where you transfer your points, but singapore/avianca seem to be a safe bet if you travel enough. I have had friends use TYP for best buy gift cards, and while better than nothing, I die a little bit inside when I hear that. I have reached out to asia miles for quotes and you can get 80k r/t J tickets (no YQ) east coast to europe, but that requires AAvailability, seems like a bit of a headache as well to ticket that. Thanks for your insight. Good tip on not trusting anything csr's say.

Someone can "travel enough" by land or by short but constant flights paid by their employer, and still not be able to use miles. Someone can travel a lot to some place in the world only served by one alliance, and not have very frequent use for the other alliances.

The problem is that most of Citi's transfer partners have horrid "hard" expiration policies. If for whatever reason you cannot use the miles before they expire, there's no way to extend expiration.

Thus there's very few airlines you can "park" TYP points safely at, if you're not absolutely sure that you're going to use them.

So Avianca (where miles expiration can be deferred indefinitely) is one the very few who is reasonably safe, but Singapore (with its 3 year hard expiration) doesn't seem like a good place to "park" to me.

And even with Avianca, you have to learn how to keep miles from expiring, and keep up with it. They shortened their expiration from 24 months to 12 months after they became a Citi TYP transfer partner (so if you only checked out their policies once right when they joined TYP, some of what you knew about their program may not longer be accurate).

You are correct. Without knowing OPs travel patterns it is difficult to provide advise. Also, without knowing the quantity, its hard to make generalizations. But at least it seems we agree on the 2 best safe-ish partners of TYP.

So is it safe to assume that if something codes as "Rent" it will not earn 3x? What about "Misc Gov Services"?

Thanks for the responses so far.

The problem is, it's difficult to define my travel patterns. I'm currently an expat in Asia on year to year contracts, so long term plans are difficult to make as my contracts may not get renewed. Add the fact that I typically travel as a family of 4 and it makes redeeming miles extremely difficult. Quantity of points is easier to answer, about 100k TYP on the Premier. About 250k total TYP and about the same number of UR.

I've been saving up hoping to eventually get to something aspirational. Either RT business or first back to the US or something nice to Maldives. Home port would be Hong Kong.
