Which websites qualify for 3X points?

3 ThankYou Points for each $1 spent on purchases made at eligible retail (including department store websites, specialty store websites, warehouse store websites and boutique websites) and travel websites (including online travel agencies, and hotel and airline websites).

3 ThankYou Points for each $1 spent on products and services purchased directly from AT&T, including payment of monthly phone, cable or internet bills.

You'll earn an Anniversary Bonus of 10,000 ThankYou Points after you spend $10,000 in purchases in the prior cardmembership year.

Special note about eBay and PayPal - varies widely as to whether the bonus points are awarded. It seems to vary depending on merchant with no real discernible pattern.
(Ref, Ref, Ref, Ref, Ref, Ref, Ref, Ref, Ref)

Certain Non-Qualifying Purchases. You won’t earn 3X Points for purchases of and payments for medical services, insurance, taxes and government services, real estate, real estate rentals, purchases or reloading of prepaid or gift cards, education, charities and utilities.
You won’t earn 3X Points for purchases from independent wireless dealers, non-AT&T-owned stores, or AT&T resellers unless you are paying for an AT&T service, such as your phone, cable or internet.
(Effective 9/22/2019)

All payments coding as online are hit and miss. Sometimes it codes as online, sometimes it doesn't. YMMV.

unlocking update

I used the success stories in here to guide me through unlocking so figured this might help. I followed something I saw on here earlier: request the unlock code before activating the phone as a "non ATT" customer (it was the very last option)..and got a confirmation email with a link to confirm shortly after. 40 hours after confirming, got the unlock code and it's all smooth sailing from there.

I am very interested in this card because of the online purchases my partner makes through his business.

However, neither of us needs a new iPhone 6 & we are 9 months into our 2-year contract. These contracts are grandfathered and include unlimited data plans; therefore, I don't wanna do anything that will affect it.

Obviously, I should wait until Apple comes out with the iPhone 6s right after Labor Day according to rumors.

I believe I will want to purchase the 6s, unlock it and resale it on Craigslist. Any advice is appreciated.

I find cell phone plans and activation to be very confusing -- I just want to get a phone to resell. I read the past 10 or so pages of this thread. Are these the basic steps to maximize resale value:

1. Buy phone using special link sent by email (I think iphone 6 probably has highest resale value). Get the $45 300MB plan. There will also be an activation fee.
2. Once I receive phone, chat with AT&T rep to unlock phone.
3. Turn on phone to activate (use dummy itunes account). Is there any way to avoid opening the phone?
4. After 15 days, cancel plan. Can I sell the phone at this point, or do I need to wait a full month since I will have prepaid for a month of service?

Any other steps or anything else I should know? (Lots of discussion about sim cards in this thread, but I'm not sure that any of it is relevant if I just plan to sell the phone.)

I would advise you to wait until iPhone 6s comes out as I think you will get much better resale value. Right now you can fetch about $6-$700 on eBay and after paying $100 for fees and $300 for the plan, card fee and taxes your profit will be slim. If the phone is sold using Craigslist you might do better.

2. Unlock through AT&T online portal as non_AT&T customer.

4. Sell after 15 days although I don't see why one could not sell immediately upon activation and cancel AT&T wireless account 15-30 days later.
But no one confirmed doing so so far after i asked.
That works if you're NOT an existing AT&T customer. What if you're already an existing customer? You couldn't unlock it immediately, right?

The only success I know of is people who unlocked before activation. You may be able to purchase a unlock code on ebay?
In my case I waited 60 days and got it unlocked after a 2 days wait.

It seems that unlocking it before activating requires you to be a new customer, right? Even then, you must wait 15 days after activation to be able to sale it.

Are you planning on keeping your phone?

My first statement just closed and I did not receive 3x points for all online retail purchases. I have over $3500 in purchases that only received 1x points. Has anyone had success getting Citi to award 3x points for purchases after the fact? That's a lot of points I'm missing out on!

Porting Old Phone Number from Straight Talk-Nope?

My wife and I both have a Nexus. I have the 4 and she has the 5. We both use Straight Talk and have for years. Both phones were sold by Google and came unlocked.Just bot SIM from ST after getting phones. I went to an ATT phone store today and had a quite lengthy talk with the manager who was extremely knowledgeable and friendly. She knew about the deal from CITI. I came in to look at the Samsung5 and 6. Anyway the point is this. When we got our ST the SIM card used by ST was either T-Mobile or ATT, in our area it was ATT. The manager told me she has spent many weeks with a number of different customers before they could get the number ported.
She no longer will accept a walk in from a ST user because of the hassles. I may not be explaining this correctly but as far as ATT is concerned I am already a customer. Even though my account is with ST, ATT will not port or
if they do it will take many weeks. The manager suggested I just dump ST and get a new phone number. ANYBODY with any suggestions it sure would be appreciated. I will update as I move thru these issues.Perhaps T-Mobile users have had the same problem. I read every page of the thread and have not seen my issue raised. Thanks in advance

My Experience with Citi AT&T Card

Asked several q's on this forum and:

I purchased an iPhone 6+ on 7/7/2015 using the link provided on Citi CC account page. I think I should have used the link I received from AT&T to my employer email address and I might have gotten an additional 24% discount on a phone plan. Not 100% sure about that, but when you click the link to the phone purchase there is a link for employer discounts. They ask for the work email address and send you a confirmation email with a link to purchase the phone.

I also tried to get AT&T wireless account opened before ordering the phone to get Plenti points and could not do it so I added Plenti account to the AT&T account later.

I got the phone 2 or 3 days after ordering it and unlocked it on AT&T web page using NON_AT&T customer option and providing required IMEI number from the box (did not turn the phone on).

Got unlock confirmation email almost immediately and was very confused because no unlock code was provided. However, someone on this forum as well as AT&T reps reassured me that the phone was automatically unlocked which was true.

Even before applying for the CC I called VZW and asked them for the nano SIM card for my future iPhone and they sent me one within 2-3 days (YMMV).

After unlocking the phone I activated AT&T account and started using the phone to test it. Beeing apprehensive about possibility to use it on VZW I called their support and they instructed me to put in their nano SIM card and the phone started working immediately. Sure enough (to my surprise) my wife's old android phone was out of service now. It was not a big deal as she did not need it but there was an option to continue to use the new iPhone on VZW and leave AT&T account dormant for 15-30 days and then just cancel it.

My experience is that iPhone had a better reception in GA and SC than my VZW original S5. In SC there was 3G sporadically, mostly 4G LTE. I think VZW is 98% with 4G LTE coverage in USA and it should be no problem. We are going to Canada and I will report how it worked there (on VZW international plan).

My first AT&T statement included charges from 7/7-7/9 and from 7/9-8/9 2015 ($55+). I also received the first CC statement on 7/15 and 3 points/$ for the phone purchase.

I did not cancel AT&T until 8/6/2015 as I noticed pending 5500 ($55 at RA) Plenti points which posted on 8/6 when I immediately cancelled AT&T contract.

Total cost about $980.

I fulfilled spending requirement before the next CC statement which was on 8/14/2015 and I was credited $650. I also got $980x3 TY points and 5500 Plenti points. Citi rep gave me additional 1000 TY points for the fraud warning decline when I tried to buy AGC online.

I also placed price check on the CITI price guarantee web page in the case that the phone price goes down to get a potential refund.

Now awaiting iPhone 6s for my second AT&T account which I will sell.

Does the transaction show the merchant's online name, or does it look the same as it might if you made a purchase in person?
