Which websites qualify for 3X points?

3 ThankYou Points for each $1 spent on purchases made at eligible retail (including department store websites, specialty store websites, warehouse store websites and boutique websites) and travel websites (including online travel agencies, and hotel and airline websites).

3 ThankYou Points for each $1 spent on products and services purchased directly from AT&T, including payment of monthly phone, cable or internet bills.

You'll earn an Anniversary Bonus of 10,000 ThankYou Points after you spend $10,000 in purchases in the prior cardmembership year.

Special note about eBay and PayPal - varies widely as to whether the bonus points are awarded. It seems to vary depending on merchant with no real discernible pattern.
(Ref, Ref, Ref, Ref, Ref, Ref, Ref, Ref, Ref)

Certain Non-Qualifying Purchases. You won’t earn 3X Points for purchases of and payments for medical services, insurance, taxes and government services, real estate, real estate rentals, purchases or reloading of prepaid or gift cards, education, charities and utilities.
You won’t earn 3X Points for purchases from independent wireless dealers, non-AT&T-owned stores, or AT&T resellers unless you are paying for an AT&T service, such as your phone, cable or internet.
(Effective 9/22/2019)

All payments coding as online are hit and miss. Sometimes it codes as online, sometimes it doesn't. YMMV.

You can get it unlocked once the phone is fully paid off.

This is an interesting card, but the $650 benefit is useless for those who sign annual contracts, like myself. This means you have to be on or go on their Next plan, which requires you pay full retail price for the phone, which is split up over monthly payments.

I think the idea is that you use the credit to pay for the phone in full at time of purchase. That way you have a fully paid phone, -and- a lower monthly AT&T bill.

Yes, that is true and the $650 will cover an iPhone 6 - 16GB.

From Citi website - additional information section:

Eligible Phones: Only phones (smartphones or basic/feature phones) purchased from AT&T at full retail price (no annual contract) through the link provided are eligible. You must activate the phone with qualifying AT&T postpaid wireless service (including voice and data as applicable) and keep the phone, and remain active and in good-standing, for at least 15 days. Excludes phones purchased via a 2-year wireless agreement, pre-paid or AT&T NextSM.

Surprised with all the FT members and blog readers that we don't have more data points for this card and the phones yet! Where are the guinea pigs? I saw on TPG that someone was approved, but they didn't post new info about the phones yet.

Press release is dated yesterday. This card was not on the website at the end of March when the thread discussing the free version was started.

What I did was got 4 note 3's when released @ the discounted price. Called up AT&T next month and said T-Mobile wants to buy out my contract and they gave me the $160 , 10gb plan offer at the time which is now 15gb and everything else unlimited.

So you could pull that, take the $650 to good use, once your contracts over get new phones again (raises first 2 months bill by tens of dollars) and than switch to T-Mobile. T-Mobile will pay up to $350 of your termination bill.

Does anyone know if this has to apply for the primary account holder of the ATT account to get the $650?

I.e. my family of 4, could me and my wife get one but still each get $650 back? She's not primary, only me. If so could my kids also get it?

Anyone find anyways to waive 1st yr AF?

It looks like AT&T will do a hard pull when you buy the phone since you have to open a postpaid account with them, so anyone who does this is going to end up with two credit inquiries (one from Citi and one from AT&T). It still might be worth it depending on how much you value hard pulls, but it's another point to consider.

What if I took the $650, bought a phone, and than made my wife the primary.

And than she would take $650?
