I just heard about the "World Elite" trick, unfortunately the AAdvantage Platinum I opened on 4/1/2015 says "World", it never got converted to a "World Elite". In that case, there's no way for me to take advantage of the "World Elite" loophole, since I have an open "World" account, correct? I might be willing to become a guinea-pig and downgrade, just need to find a way to meet minimum spend for the new card, now that Serve is gone. |

But to make sure, did you check your account online to make sure it is still a World card? Don't know if this has happened, but maybe it converted and you didn't get a new card. |

There were some reports a month or two back (I was one of them) of people's spend miles posting when their statement closed, but not their bonus miles. It ended up being related to the timing of the W->WE conversion. I believe it was something along the lines of "if your statement with the bonus posts at the same time that your W->WE conversion is initiated, your bonus will be delayed until your next statement." This is exactly what happened to me - the bonus points showed on my statement as reported to AA, but only the regular spend points posted at that time. The bonus actually posted to my AA account on my next statement.
Two things to note: 1. Citi doesn't always generate statements when there's no activity on an account. I don't know if it would affect the bonus posting, but to be safe, make sure you have at least 1 transaction during that second statement period. 2. Since our understanding of the timing of W->WE conversion is questionable at best, there's not a foolproof way to time your bonuses to prevent this in the future. Probably not really worth trying. You can ask Citi to change your statement closing date so you get the miles sooner, but it almost certainly won't take effect until the following statement cycle, which would do you no good. |

Using available information you don't need the card number to determine if you will get the 50,000 mile bonus. You can call the application ID phone number, give the CSR the ID number and ask if the card comes with a bonus.
If you call prior to getting the card, and use your application ID, are you sure you're not just getting that information rehashed, rather than the information about whether your account was deemed qualified for the bonus? That's why it's the wrong question to ask whether the card has the 50,000 bonus. The right question to ask is: By what date do I need to finish the $3000 spend to get the 50,000 bonus. If they can't tell you the date yet, they're not looking up your new card account to see whether you qualified, they're just looking at the benefits the card application names. |

But, on the other hand, you still can get 25k by signing up for the Gold card, and if that gets converted to WE at some point, you may be able to repeat that. Repeating 25k is better than repeating nothing at all, right? (And the Gold card requires much less spend, so it's easier to achieve the minimum spend on the Gold "naturally" just by shifting all your credit card purchases to it for a while.) Plus, if you've never had the business card before, you can still get 50k once by signing up for the business card. That has the same spend requirement as the personal Citi AA Plat card, though, so make sure you know how to achieve that spend without going broke. |

Be careful: If you ask whether the card comes with a bonus during the applications process, they'll tell you "yes", but that's based on the wording of the offer you signed up for, not whether in the end Citi determined you qualify for that offer.

I wasn't doing this for myself. I already had the letter confirming the bonus and the spend is complete. The purpose for my call was to demonstrate to others that you don't need the card number to confirm the bonus--the APP ID is sufficient. For those who get a letter and the bonus is not mentioned, this is one way to verify whether they will get the bonus or not. And my question to the CSR got the same information as yours would have. P.S. For those wanting an extra 10,000 miles. I sent a simple secure message for both me and my wife asking if we were eligible for the extra miles available on a 60K card application. We were both approved. In fact, my 10K extra has already posted--before I met the spending requirements. Try it. You have nothing to lose. |

Thank you. I see there is doubt if we can churn the card anymore. So in the mean time I am going to apply for the citigold and hopefully in a few days we will know if it's dead or not. If it isn't, I'll apply for a MC and close (change to a different card) the Visa (hopefully I can move the cl on to the MC). If it is dead then I can see what's the best way to move fwd.

DH's card from January has 10K adjustment together with spend shown on statement closed on 15th, shows in AA account today. He has not met the spend yet. Hopefully the card would not be converted too soon so not to mess up the 50K posting.
I think we need to wait for those whose letters dont mention bonus to come back with their data points before we could know whether the W to WE still works. |
bad news
Got my new W card in the mail yesterday, and registered it for online access. Unfortunately, no bonus mileage meter appeared. I sent a SM inquiry about the welcome bonus, and now have their response copied below. :(
I'm not sure if their use of "existing account" is open to interpretation, as my WE (#1) card is still open. Dear Valued Customer: We appreciate the opportunity to assist you. As a current or former Citi AAdvantage Cardmember, you are not eligible for the one-time bonus miles offer. When you applied, terms and conditions of the offer include a disclosure that the bonus miles are not available to existing Cardmembers. Terms and conditions state Acquisition Special Offers will not apply if customers have existing accounts in the same product approved or closed within the last 18 months. We look forward to providing you with the best possible service. If there is anything we can do to further assist you, please let us know. Regards, xxxxx Account Specialist South Dakota |

So you proved nothing, because other people have asked that question before, been told there was a bonus, and ended up not getting the bonus! |

I'm not sure if their use of "existing account" is open to interpretation, as my WE (#1) card is still open. Which link did you use to apply? What if any Citi AA cards did you close since you applied for the WE (#1) card you just mentioned? How long after you got the WE card did you apply for this new W card? |
Has the time arrived to wish RIP to W --> WE loohole?
Sad Cheers :( |
