Change Citi statement close date and accelerating points?

I've done this before with Chase but was wondering if you can change the statement close date with Citi so that you can get your points/miles more quickly. Does this work for an initial statement on a new card? Trying to expedite AA miles.

I know what you mean.. and I think Chase is the only bank this works with. Citi and other banks can all do this but it usually results in a longer statement, not shorter

No, not on your initial statement. Your change of statement close goes into effect on the next statement after the current one closes (or maybe even two statements later, if you make the request too late in the current tatement cycle). Citi has the "change statement close date" set up for people who will keep and use their cards, not for churners who want only the singup bonus fast and then put the card in the drawer or worse.

However, have you gotten your card and seen when the first statement closes? Very often when i get a Citi card, the first statement closes just days after I get the card (ie, very short first statement). If so, and if you can do all the spend the very first day (so that it'll post within a few days and that will be soon enough), you may get your wish without changing anything. But if you need a whole week or more to do your spend, chances are you'll get a short first statement indeed, but won't get all the spend done on that first statement, so you'll be actually wore off than if the first statement period had simply been a month long (from your approval date).

Try online chat with Citi, I was able to move (back) the first statement closing date couple of months ago on one of my AA Exec to give more time to meet min spending.

Huh???

The statement close date has nothing to do with when you have meet minimum spending. The minimum spending clock starts ticking on your account opening date, and stops ticking after the minimum spend time (3 months or whatever) has passed.

Now, the statement date relative to when you meet that minimum spend may affect how quickly our bonus posts, but that's not the same thing as "more time to meet min spending".
