Q. Can I transfer Thank You points to airline programs?
A. Yes, but only from a TYP account tied to one of the following premium (fee-based) Citi cards:
Exception: Citi Preferred or Rewards+ cardholders can transfer to JetBlue at a less favorable rate (1000:500). They cannot transfer to other airline or hotel programs except as explained in the next paragraph .
Points earned through other cards -- such as the Citi Preferred or Rewards+ -- are eligible for transfer to airline programs, provided you also hold one of the premium cards listed above.
ThankYou Points earned through banking and customer service adjustments are called Taxable Points. Citi reports them as taxable when they are redeemed, not when they are earned. Citi does not allow Taxable Points to be Shared or Transferred, because they cannot determine a monetary value for those redemptions. However, the IT implementation of this policy may be imperfect. In 2015 one member was able to Transfer points earned through banking shortly after combining two ThankYou Rewards accounts. See posts 207-210, but no one has replicated this success.
Q. Which airline programs can I transfer TYP into?
A. TYP may be transferred 1:1 to these airline programs:
OneWorld
SkyTeam
Star Alliance
Independent
and to these hotel programs:
and to this retail program:
Q: After I transfer, when will my miles expire at that airline/hotel program? Is there anything I can do to avoid expiration there?
The Miles/Points that Do and Don't Expire wiki now lists all of the above Citi TYP airline/hotel transfer partners and their respective expiration policies.
Q. Are transfers instant?
A. Not necessarily. Although Citi's FAQ states that it may take up to fourteen days for the ThankYou Points to post to your participating travel loyalty program member account, anecdotal evidence suggests that many transfer times will be much shorter. A summary:
Q. Can I transfer to another person's airline or hotel program account?
A. Per the Citi FAQ,
We do not have many reports describing how strictly this rule is applied/enforced, nor any reports on workarounds. One FTer, in his first post ever, claimed success in transfering TYP to another person's Etihad (EY) account.
Keep in mind that TYP may be freely Shared with another TYP member's account (with the points expiring 90 days after transfer). If the recipient member has a transfer-eligible card (as described above), s/he can Transfer points to airline or hotel partners.

Hey, what's your advice on next steps to take regarding missing points/failed points transfer.
Requested to transferred 85k Citi TY points to CX Asia Miles on 3/11, now two weeks later 3/25 points still haven't posted to Asia Miles. Therefore couldn't get the award ticket I wanted, but managed to book backup flight through AA miles.
Asia Miles says can 6-8 weeks, while Citi says points should transfer within 14 days. Think it's possible to have Citi cancel the transfer and reinstate the points?

- They refunded my transferred points
- They also gave me TY point equivalent of the cash price so I could book the rev tickets and just "pay with points"
- The sweetest part is that the transfer eventually went through anyways. I kept my points in addition to the ones Citi gave me as goodwill. Managed to book the flights I needed via the points in my Flying Blue account.

Call Citi or tweet their support. I had a failed Flying Blue transfer which caused me to miss out on the redemption. Make some noise. I got lucky with how I came out (YMMV since there was a known issue with Flying Blue transfers):

In addition, they are opening a case to investigate where the points went, so within 5 biz days the 85k points should either be in Asia Mile account or back in my Citi TY Account.

Thank you for the advice, just got off phone with a Senior Citi Thank You Advisor, after explaining the situation, they awarded me 15k TY points to apologize for the inconvenience and said I could buy the ticket I needed on my Citi Prestige card using said 15k TY points and they would refund the difference between 15K TY points and cost of flight as a statement credit. Since this would be ~$6k revenue cash flight I requested they mail me a letter restating that. We'll see when letter arrives ~7 biz days.
In addition, they are opening a case to investigate where the points went, so within 5 biz days the 85k points should either be in Asia Mile account or back in my Citi TY Account.

Slow transfers to Asia Miles are not rare. American Express terms state that transfers may take up to 90 days. See this thread in the American Express forum:

Does anyone know if the presence of my middle name would cause issues in transfer?
My SQ profile has
Last name: Last name
Given name: Firstname Middlename
whereas my Citi profile is just First name MiddleInitial Last name - with TY points account having just my first name and last name.
I am getting worried as I see FULFILLED under Citi whereas I don't see on the SQ side.

Well, per the wikipost atop this thread, that may not be quite enough time:
3 calendar days would be sometime today, but you wouldn't be sure of that until tomorrow. Meanwhile, how long did it take before the Citi site showed "FULFILLED"? Maybe if Citi late in sending it, it takes even longer? (None of those previous data points documented when Citi showed "FULFILLED".)
And perhaps with an "imperfect" name match, it might take even longer than usual (even if it does perhaps end up working in the end)? Keep in mind that something "imperfect' may mean it has to wait for a human to get involved who wouldn't need get involved in "simple" cases.

UPDATE: Just came through SIA has my middle name as given name whereas Citi had only my first name - but it worked out ok.

Citi TYP Transfer to Krisflyer
I'm in the process of transferring my TYP to Krisflyer, and I noted that the standard transfer times on a lot of travel blogs and on FT indicate a 1-2 day processing time, despite Citi's stated time frame of 14 days. It's now the third day since I've initiated the transfer, and the points have not yet shown up in my account. Ordinarily I would not be that worried and would just wait it out, but my concern is that on my Krisflyer account, my middle name is included as part of my (given) name, whereas on my Citi account, it's only my first and last name on my account. I'm worried that this might be why the transfer has not gone through yet. Is this something to be concerned about, and is there anything I can do? Thanks for any input!
