Prestigious Citi Card Tricks [Citi Prestige Card benefits]

For those considering the Citi Prestige:

Buying Delta e-gifts does count toward the $200 annual airline fee reimbursement. Annual as in $200 in 2013 and $200 in $2014.

If you already have Global Entry, a Prestige AU's Global Entry fee can be reimbursed for $100.

If you are CitiGold, the fee for the card and for the AU card is reduced.

The Airport Angel lounges are mainly outside the US, but many have free beer and hard liquor and food (been to 3 already).

I'll post more as I play with this toy.

How very interesting. I'm thinking about trying out the reimbursement route on AA and UA, just for research sake. This is encouraging. I wonder if award booking fees or close-in booking fees would be reimbursed, as well?

Southwest egift cards are reimbursed as well.

Also, I was able to just show my card and get into a Mastercard "Black" airport lounge in Costa Rica. The Mastercard Black lounge was a seperate area from the rest of the lounge, and had waiter service for hot/cold food and drinks.

Used primary and AU cards for PPT lounge and LAX Skyteam lounge access while flying AA/TN. no problems.

I'm mostly interested in the buddy pass - I have the Citi Premier, do they stick you on the worst flight possible too? A mostly free ticket anywhere in the world makes the price of admission worth it.

I already used 3 buddy passes and saved 4K+ cash on the following:
2 JFK-LAX-PPT-LAX_JFK
1 SFO-HNL (none stop)
They happened to be exactly I was looking for (cheapest and best route/least stops).

of course YMMV

Check out some of the other threads related to the premier/prestige companion ticket for more discussion and the prestige thread, but one of the big things is that the YQ/YR taxes are not waived on the companion redemptions. Flying from the US, most fares to Europe and South Asia have these taxes, such that we just used 2 buddy passes for me, my wife and in-laws to fly to India and saved a total of $800. Totally justified the AF, but not incredible savings. We got exactly the routing and timing that we wanted, but we also always take the cheapest flights as long as the timing/routing isn't awful.

Seeing the above post I just priced out a random WAS-PPT flight and found it would save 1600!

The Premier gets a domestic buddy pass. You basically get the cheapest itinerary available to choose from, with the caveat that Delta is never an option. So if your preferred itinerary is the cheapest (or among the 10 or so cheapest) you have a good shot at being able to book it. This means that nonstops are often off the table, but not always . I recently almost used mine for a transcon direct flight but they didn't have the exact flight I wanted so I used US Airways companion pass instead (Citi Premier / Spirit had 5 of the 6 direct itineraries that day available, but I needed that 6th one)

You know for what it's worth I read their web site on this card and while it's a lot of glossy pictures and statements, the card is pricey and the APR is as well. I have yet to see anyone really match AMEX globally. Just for peace of mind if anything!

Just sayinn........

Worth noting that if you call, they're able to book you on a Delta flight as long as it's the cheapest. It seems that SkyTeam airlines are blocked from showing up on the site but the agents still have access to them.

It's more than just SkyTeam airlines that they can book over the phone. I had found fairly cheap tickets on Emirates Air to India via ITA Matrix, and was able to call in and have them purchase the tickets. There was significant pushback over booking these tickets as Emirates doesn't charge YQ, two round trip tickets to India came to a total of 1,300.

The APR on my Prestige card is 9.24%. By comparison, if I were to use the pay-over-time feature of my American Express Platinum card the rate would be 18.24%

For me, this is unimportant because I pay in full, but if someone were thinking about carrying a balance Citi might be the better choice, although I'm sure lower rates are available elsewhere.
